2016 Mares Hurdle

What's everyone's thoughts on AP or VVM for this race now? My day 1 four fold is in tatters if they re route VVM mag here.. Just weirdly hoping they can't get a run into Annie..

They seemed disappointed that the 130 rated Jennies Jewel was within 4 lengths. Ricci mentioned Annies 162 rating in an interview afterwards.

My take was that VVM had loads in hand and was better than the bare form.

Here is the Ricci quote

"I was very nervous as it is a big weekend for us, I wasn't worried about the trip, Ruby didn't have to ask her a lot, but it is the first time I have seen her pushed and for her to come off the bridle. I'm a bit worried Jennies Jewel was second, actually, but he just asked her for a bit of a push really. She has got the World Hurdle and the Mares' Hurdle, so it puts us in a very good mind for Cheltenham."

The owner is in the enviable position of having Annie Power in the wings to boot. He continued: "A lot depends on whether Annie Power gets another run. If we can get her another run before Cheltenham she will be hard to beat in the World Hurdle off her rating. But the problem is can we get a run into her? I'm not sure we can."

"She will be hard to beat in the World Hurdle off her rating".

What does he mean by that? He means the allowance right?

Presume he means that if she runs up to her rating of 162 + 7lbs allowance there is nothing else to beat her?

Thistlecrack is 168 now. Cole Harden 164.

Annie Power rating is 163 I think thats what he means along with her allowance would make her best in at the weights for World Hurdle, Vroum Vroum is only rated 150 odd so Annie would be the stronger of the two on ratings..I take it thats what he means, tho for me the whole stable will be on the first day 4 timer with Annie for the Mares in that 4 timer and I cant see Annie not running in Mares unless she has a setback.

^ the mares is still a grade 1 and they will want Annie to have a Cheltenham win after two misses so I think she has to go here. She could win a World Hurdle but its definitely harder.

Ruby will want good rides in Stayers and Ryanair though. I cant call those yet.

She was fit and rated 165 in 2014 when she got beat. So his words "hard to beat" is a bit arrogant. I now hope she gets her ass kicked if she goes the WH route now!

Yeah hes arrogant Ricci and that can be very annoying, going back to Annie I think that with the last two years having setbacks and a bad fall I dont think she'll be as good as she was when they tried to win the World Hurdle back then and she still got beat so with that in mind its a no brainer to go for the Mares hurdle against weaker opposition..I think its all smoke and mirrors..she'll line up in the Mares for me.

Paddy Power are clear best price at 13/2 about VVM in the Mares. They know she isnt going there.

( and they are only 7/2 for her in Stayers).

This makes me feel a bit better. My mulitples from the past 6months depend on Annie going to the mares

Willie Mullins on 25/01/16

"I’ve entered three in the OLBG Mares’ Hurdle at Doncaster on Saturday. Morning Run, who will definitely come over and Petite Parisienne and Whiteout who I’ll decide on later in the week."

"Vroum Vroum Mag has come out of your (OLBG Mares’ Hurdle) sponsored race at Ascot very well. She’s had a nice roll around this morning."

Patrick this morning

"Annie is 100 per cent. Ruby (Walsh) rode her work and was very happy with her.

"I think it looks like she'll probably go straight to Cheltenham. I think time would be running out to get a run into her.

"That's not 100 per cent confirmed, but I would imagine she'll go straight to Cheltenham."

"The World Hurdle is a very tough race and to go there on your first run of the season would be very difficult," he told At The Races.

"I think if you're going there on your first run of the season you take the easier option, which would be the mares' race.

"That would look the logical way to do things, I would think.

However no sooner had Mullins' quotes emerged than she was also entered for a two-and-a-half-mile mares' event at Punchestown next Wednesday.

Annie Power also has the option at Cheltenham of running in the World Hurdle, a race in which she was narrowly denied by More Of That in 2014 - and her route may yet be decided by whether or not she lines up at Punchestown.

In his exclusive Racing Post Saturday column, Mullins said: “We’re pleased with the way Annie Power is progressing and she has been working well. Things are looking positive for her running on Wednesday, although we won’t decide until close to declaration time on Tuesday.

“She likes Punchestown, having twice won the Grade 1 mares’ hurdle at the festival meeting there.”

I'll bleeding cry if she doesn't go to the mares

I'll be crying with you. She's in so many of my multiples for the mares.

I think she's still big odds on to go for the mares. I'm sure WPM loves giving us all a few sleepless nights on the run up to the festival!
