Many on here say PT has a big say in how Willies best are split. Maybe IEP being name checked for Arkle does add weight to Ballyburn going elsewhere. PT will surely want to ride both as they are right up there as Willies highest rated horses.

Apologies for stating the obvious but in October Mullins won’t know where his horses will be going, I’m sure he has an idea of what race(s) might suit but at this time of year all options remain open, horses can surprise you as the season progresses….

Royal bond looks a funny race to start off in for Willie?
I could be wrong, but his last horse to run in it and win at Cheltenham that season was Penhill. Finished 4th in the bond and won the Bartlett.
Also from glancing at Willies previous royal bond runners in recent years, they all had prep runs before the race.
He did mention its gone to a Grade 2 so maybe he targeted the grade 1 with weaker horses to get them a grade 1 to their name.
And I suppose Salvator is bit different as he has already won a maiden so where do you give him a run.
Elliott's runners in the 2 mile maiden at Down royal could be interesting as one will more than likely head for the Bond to take on Salvator.
If for example Romeo Coolio wins and runs to a 140 RPR plus, then Salvator could be in bother, running against a fitter and older horse that's going to progress further.
Only one run for the county then and owners would be open to a state man type journey you'd be thinking.
No way they are aiming to go down this county route but with the early run planned and willie hinting he is near a handicap eligibility, they are very much leaving the door openLast edited by OffTheBridle; 1 November 2024, 04:04 AM.
