Good ride by Townend there, kept the pace sedate knowing he could take them in a sprint. He looks bombproof doesn’t he.
Conflated will be absolutely wasted in the XC when there’s the Ryanair begging to be won.
First reaction is all to play for.
Think had the rain not come that would have been very interesting and I would think the runner up probably needed that more than the winner, having missed his last entry.
Think both proved big players.
And Conflated I agree showed enough to think he’s still capable for a race like the Ryanair
I thought everything was going well, certainly going down to the fifth last. I said to someone next to me 'he's jumping fantastic' then he goes in and fiddles that and the one after too," the winning trainer said.
"I thought he should have enough in the tank to keep Fastorslow behind him but certainly JJ (Slevin) was looking very confident going over the second last and then after the second last the signals started coming out that we were coming out on top. I was happier then than I was going to the third last."
Townend added: "That was brilliant. He jumped off again like the last day and took on the first couple of fences well. I knew going down to the start he was in good form and it was straightforward. I was happy at all stages.
"We were quickening turning for home but were quickening on my terms and it was going to take a fair one to quicken and then quicken again to get past him. We'll enjoy today. It's a big day in itself."
If he turns up in the same form in March then you can't look past him. The only one I think could trouble him if he had an off day would be Gentlemansgame who is the only real unknown quantity out there imo.

I've said all along that GDC was well below (a stone or more) his best in the 2 Punchestown races which is why I've always marked Fastorslow's rating down. To be fair, the handicapper has taken a similar view. Today was his Gold Cup and his trainer would have had him spot on. He even said that he'd had a better preparation than GDC's 'hard race' at Christmas. Apart from the thought that he might struggle to stay the Gold Cup trip, I can't see any way that he will get closer to GDC in March if the latter performs to the same level as last year or even yesterday.
Conflated has been a monkey in the past and I don't believe that his unseats the last twice were down to stamina issues. I think that he would get bored running around behind Stage Star in the Ryanair and would be refreshed by the XC, for which he is supposed to be a 'natural'. Fastorslow, on the other hand, would go very well and stand every chance.

Guess we differ on all counts then.
That’s this game for you.
If you've backed Fastorslow, you'll just need to hope the likely much faster pace at Cheltenham will give some improvement but we know Galopins been there and done it. Yesterday's race was slow with Paul able to dictate the race from the front. I'd say the Gold Cup will end up being more evenly run but unless GDC makes a bad error, I can't see him beaten.

Yep you have to have hope when you back against a short priced fav.
As I said, my belief is FOS will improve for better ground and the extra run.
It looked to me it was going to be very close after the 2nd last, and my belief is if that was to be repeated at Cheltenham on better ground with a fitter horse in a race that’s been ran completely different, FOS will be a lot better at the finish.
That still may not be good enough of course, GDC is very good, but I do think after watching yesterday and taking all
into consideration, it’s all to play for.

Yep, GMG is very interesting and still a good price imo.
Can certainly see him placing at least.
Job done for shishkin there.
wouldn't have loved the going but looked in control.
will need more in march but i believe he's got it in the locker
The downhill sections worry me for him and could cost him the race but it’ll be great for the race if he lines up and if he’s upsides jumping the last I’d fancy him against any of them.
