  • October FJ Yankee

Seeing as though nobody else has started this thread, I thought I better had.

Personally, I’m only a fan of ‘themes’ that could possibly realise 4 winners but if you have any ideas for this months selections then pop it in here & we can collectively decide what to do this month.

Lbur4288 has already suggested posters nominate 2 choices and the 4 most popular will be the final selection, whilst Goldentouch mentioned a ‘returning champions from the previous year’ Yankee.

Also, if anybody else wants to facilitate this months effort then feel free to volunteer.

I think we just do our best to pick 4 winners for this. No restrictions other than price, perhaps a 5/1 shortest cut off, and as you suggest the 4 most popular selections go in.

The usual caveat being a degree of confidence about target.
Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more I sweat, the luckier I get.

I liked two ideas that were put forward late on for September:

Everyone nominates 2 horses and the 4 most popular go in. In the event of a tie the longest/shortest price goes in?

Past winners - not necessarily reigning champs but those with really really strong festival form from earlier in their careers

My 2 October nominees for horses that haven’t yet made the monthly yankees

        Jonbon (supreme) 10/1
Vanillier (Banc) 16/1 - although I hope he finishes 2nd behind GDC

If 5/1 is the cut off I'd nominate tiger roll surely the most likely at greater than 5s, reigning champ, target nailed on, traditionally weak race... what's not to like

Surely with Tiger being a 12yo next season his crutches will get in the way when he jumps?

Have we done the E/W Yankee yet? If not we could whack one in this month?

….is e/w or win down to individual preference or is the rationale that we pick selections we think will run well behind short priced favourites? Presume we did one last year.

I'll nominate my two incase we agree to go down that route. I want to try and nominate two that I think I have the right race for and that aren't too skinny odds.

Shewearsitwell for the Mares Hurdle (volatile prices from 8/1 to 14/1).

Flooring Porter for the Stayers Hurdle.

….I think we might have done. Just wonder with the prices of last months ‘millionaire Yankee’ will most posters have done e/w perms.

Do we want to hold on a bit this month? Saxon's October analysis shows we could see some great pointers this month and we could let those unfold for "out early in the season" Yankee?

…I suppose the ‘two picks’ approach allows the inclusion of runners this month, especially if we allow posters to change their opinion if impressed by one that’s out early.

Well the March Yankee had a 6/1,5/1 and two 4/1.
If anyone has done that each way they must be some complete knob
