Wincanton is trainer Paul Nicholls local track and he has a great record in the race. Zarkandar won the 2012 renewal for Nicholls and later in the 2012-3 season landed the Grade 1 Aintree Hurdle at the Grand National meeting. Previous notable winners include Cheltenham Festival Arkle Challenge Trophy winners Well Chief and Azertyuiop.
