Jonjo O’Neill rode nine Cheltenham Festival winners between 1976 and 1986. He has ridden the winner of the Gold Cup ( Alverton, Dawn Run) and Champion Hurdle (Sea Pigeon, Dawn Run)Â on two occasions. Dawn Run is the only horse to have won both the Champion Hurdle over two miles and the Gold Cup over an extended 3 miles. Johnjo’s ride in the 1986 Gold Cup is acknowledged as one of the greatest ever.
