The Grade 2 Ten Up Novice Steeplechase run at Navan in mid February should be a pointer towards the Novice Steeplchases run at the Cheltenham Festival but no horse has doubled up in the last decade.
Snowy Morning’s second to Denman in the RSA has been the best performance by a winner at that meeting.
Quito De La Rogue and Lion Na Bernai did have notable next race wins at Aintree and in the Irish Grand National respectively.
The race remembers Ten Up. He was the last horse, prior to Denman, to win the RSA in 1974 and then follow up in the Gold Cup the next season (see video below). Ten Up was trained by Jim Dreaper. Bobs Worth and Lord Windemere have since emulated that feat.
