The Savills Chase ( previously Lexus) run at Leopardstown on the 28th of December is one of the more valuable staying chases run in Ireland and has Grade 1 status.
The roll of honour includes Cheltenham Gold Cup winners , Bobs Worth( 2013) , Synchronised (2011), Denman (2007) and Best Mate (2003). These 3 horses were trained in GB and the overall record of British raiders is noteworthy. Champ is a potential runner from GB in 2020.
Owners : Of late the race has been dominated by Gigginstown House with five of the last six winners carrying the O’Leary silks.
Trainers: Mullins, Meade and Elliott have shared the last six renewals winning two each.
Age: Six year olds account for for of the last five winners but Ruby Walsh’s winning ride on 11 year old Tidal Bay is a favoured race memory.
Favourites have won only 3 of the last 10 renewals but dont look too far down the market. Outlander at 11-a was the biggest price winner since 2001.
