The Winter Novices’ Hurdle is run at Sandown Park on the Friday of the Tingle Creek meeting.
The roll of honour includes only one winner, Barton, who added the equivalent event ( currently the Neptune Investment Novices Hurdle) at the Cheltenham Festival. It is nonetheless a race to keep an eye on with See More Business (1995) and Neptune Collonges (2005) both winning this for trainer Paul Nicholls before moving on to greater things. The three time World Hurdle winner, Inglis Drever, won this in his novice year (2003). The 2011 race was won by Fingal Bay with the eventual Neptune Novices Hurdle Winner Simonsig held in second.
