While most of the racing world will be focused on the big flat meetings – Dubai World Cup at Meydan and the Lincoln at Doncaster, we expect a little bit of National Hunt racing history may be made at Uttoxeter or Stratford this afternoon when Ruby Walsh goes in search of a 2000th career win in the UK and Ireland. He is jocked up on three this afternoon:
15:05 Sat 31st Mar Uttoxeter 2m 4f 110y 5 Balding Banker (IRE) P F Nicholls
15:40 Sat 31st Mar Uttoxeter 2m 4 Tonic Mellysse (FR) P F Nicholls
17:35 Sat 31st Mar Stratford 2m 110y 5 Whisky Yankee (IRE) P F Nicholls
Tonic Mellysee in particular will be a warm order to get the magical number up. Only Tony McCoy (who now has 4000 wins on his radar) and Richard Johnson have ridden more winners under National Hunt rules.
Ruby has also had wins in France ( in Grade 1 races for good measure) and we believe his 2000th career win either came on Quevega or Big Bucks at Cheltenham.
