The Jewson Novices Chase is run on the third day of the Cheltenham Festival over a distance of 2 miles 4 furlongs. It is one of the newest races at the meeting having been introduced in 2011. The race currently enjoys Grade 2 status but is likely to be upgraded over the next few seasons. The 2012 winner, Sir Des Champs, is one of the favourites for the 2013 Cheltenham Gold Cup and over time this race may develop into one of the main pointers to the following years Gold Cup.
This is a difficult race for the antepost punter as horses entered in this race could potentially have other targets at the Festival including the the Novice Handicap Chase ( 0-140) over the same distance ( won by Hunt Ball in 2012 ), the Grade 1 Arkle Challenge Trophy over 2 miles ( won by Sprinter Sacre in 2012) and the Grade 1 RSA Chase over 3 Miles (won by Bobs Worth).
The UK 2.5 Mile Novice Chase division includes the following listed and graded events throughout the season and we will be keeping an eye on these races for pointers towards the 2013 Jewson Novices Chase.
