Hello Fat Jockeys,

  • Aintree 2025 Day 2

Aintree racecard, 4th April 2025. Going: GOOD TO SOFT, Good in places on Mildmay course (GoingStick: Mildmay Chase 5.5, Mildmay Hurdle 5.3 ,Grand National course 5.5) (Watered) (Rail movements: 1.45 & 4.40 +41yds, 2.20 +37yds, 2.55, 3.30 & 5.15 +29yds and 4.05 +15yds). (Mostly sunny)

Entries and weights. As ever, the Topham looks competitive and the Mildmay Novice could be informative if the principals stand their ground.

If Steel Ally takes his chance I’ll be have a decent go on him.
This race generally lacks to competitiveness of a Betfair/County Hurdle so even off top weight I can see him going close….

I'm hoping BLUE LORD takes his chance in the Topham. Sent to Ascot for his latest start over similar trip and dropped 3lbs by the handicapper is probably what they hoped for.
I can see some sort of headgear being applied, maybe cheekpieces to sharpen him up and 20/1 for a 3 time Grade 1 winner was too tempting to turn down.

Has big gordo said whether romeo coolio runs in the 2 mile or 2m4f race?

Think he'd be a certainty in the 2m4f race myself

I like this shout a lot. Just whether they run him.

Could see him going off single figures if turning up.

I'm mad keen on James Du Berlais again for the Topham and took 16s when first priced up. He barely touched a twig in the race last year and was just touched off on the run in. If he's learned from the ride last season, PT will hold on to him until after the elbow.

I also like Dancing City in the 3 mile chase if he turns up. He's much better than he showed at Cheltenham

He did run a lot better at Aintree than Cheltenham last year

              Perhaps he doesn't like Cheltenham

8/1 looks huge to me if he runs

They must be half tempted by the Irish national though. That's probably where I'd run him.

Conor Stone Walsh booked for Washington in boys race. Horse placed in this twice before.

Agree about Dancing City. I still maintain, as I did pre festival, that I think he's better away from Cheltenham.

On the plus side to this, it means we get a better price for Aintree

Declared and PT onboard. That has made my day

                          Played 3 in the Topham.

                          Excello 25/1
                          Mars Harper 25/1
                          Gentleman De Me 33/1

I did have 5 others on the shortlist (JDB, Blue Lord, Amirite, Grandeur D'Ame & Eldorado Allen) but can't back them all and the first two in that list were just a little too short for me from a price perspective.

                            Great shout

Wish I'd taken the risk now as he will go off fav but hey ho

Dancing city and romeo coolio would be my main fancies

if i do back romeo il put any winnings on the jonbon/protektorat straight forecast

That is unless romeo drifts out to 13/8 or bigger then il double down as it looks a gimme to me

I'm really hoping they go forward with Salvator Mundi against Romeo. I'd like to see his true ability from the front instead of these stupid 'wait with' tactics where he pulls for the first half of the race.

Probably by design at Cheltenham of course, but can't help but feel we haven't seen the best of him in his last two races.
