Nice time to open a thread about this season’s GN. A few posters have highlighted the likes of Vanillier and Mr Incredible, but my early dart is;

I’d like to know if it’s on the agenda but ran well in the Irish equivalent earlier this year as well as coming 3rd the valuable PP Chase last December. He’s already been seen a couple of times this season running against decent opposition over shorter than ideal distances. Will be in that nice 8yo age group next April, 66-1 is a bit of a stand-out with 365.

Smaller fields to try and manoeuvre with handicap marks over coming months.

Galvin got to be reasonably well treated there hasn't he. Didn't get very far last year mind. Was 50s earlier but chopped into 25s now.

Mr Incredible got a bit further last year and is another worth another chance. Mullins seems quite positive about how he's working and I assume he's deliberately been kept back?! Still 40s.

Not sure exactly what they mean by current season though - and potentially having ran in the previous years National might count, which seems a little perverse but who fucking knows ?

The second to receive £200,000, the third £100,000, the fourth £65,000, the fifth £40,000, the sixth £30,000, the seventh £20,000, the eighth £15,000, the ninth £10,000 and the 10^th £5,000.

For seven year olds and upwards which, prior to March 26^th 2024, have started in a minimum of six steeple chases run under the Rules of Racing of a Recognised Turf Authority, at least one of which must have been during the current season.

In addition, prior to March 26^th 2024, horses must have been placed first, second, third or fourth in a steeple chase with an official distance description of 'two miles, seven and a half furlongs' or more, at any time during the horse's career.

Horses must be also allotted a rating of 130 or more by the BHA Handicapper following a review of the horses entered and after taking account of races run up to and including February 18^th. Horses which are not qualified for a rating in Great Britain or Ireland at closing may also be entered. Such horses may be eligible for a weight, providing

the Handicapper is satisfied that the horse's racecourse performances up to and including February 18^th 2024 would merit a minimum rating of 130.

…..interesting but without looking, I can’t think there’ll be many that haven’t run in a chase this season (Le Milos an obvious one).
