2024 Grand National

The 4 I fancy and backed accordingly are:
Noble Yeats 16/1 E/W - Been campaigned solely over hurdles this season, which I don't mind at all, and has been running solidly enough in some top races. His big day will clearly be the National now. 1lb lower than last season when never nearer, only going down by 8 1/2 lengths. 14lbs swing with Corach Rambler for this years race too. I'd much rather have Noble Yeats @ 16/1 than Corach at 6's, given how hard a race Corach is going into the National off the back of.
Kitty's Light 25/1 E/W (now 20's) - Absolutely loves marathon trips. His record over trips from 3m4f+ reads 2-2-3-1-1-1, the first of those 2's was when he was only 5 years old, so a ridiculously solid performance for a horse so young. His performances over 4m reads 2-1-1 and again, the 2 was when he was just aged 6. He's very experienced for his age with 35 career starts and 25 of them over fences. He's been campaigned a mixture this season, over hurdles and fences, and I don't mind a prep run in the Ultima prior to the National, something that has been done successfully in the past.
Galvin 20/1 E/W - 11lbs lower than when running in the race last season, albeit he unseated at the 1st. Not unknown to the forum, having won the NH Chase at the festival back in 2021. Clearly goes well over extreme trips and I really liked his prep run in the Boyne Hurdle at Navan, although I do realise the prep run was actually for the X-Country at the festival, which never got ran, rather than the Grand National. I'm surprised he's been dropped so much so quickly, and think the yard have targeted this race with him this season.
Stattler 40/1 E/W - Same owner as Galvin, and one, again, that doesnt' mind a marathon trip, having also won the NH Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, back in 2022. The horse who finished miles behind him in 3rd that day was last seasons 2nd in the Grand National, Vanillier. He's got to give him 8lbs in the National this season, but that shouldn't be an issue. Vanillier is 2nd favourite, around 12/1 and Stattler is 40's. I know which one I prefer. His dams sire is one of my all time favourite sires for Grand National horses, in Old Vic, sire of Grand National winners Don't Push It, and my namesake, Comply Or Die. He's also had multiple horses that have placed in the race over the years.

I've backed 6 so far and rank them in the following order as to their chances.
Panda Boy 2ptew 16-1 B365 & 27-1 Bex
Meetingofthewaters 4ptew 15-1 WH
Adamantly Chosen 1ptew 66-1 Betvic
Galvin 2ptew 22-1 WH
Mr Incredible 1ptew 25-1 B365
Chemical Energy 1ptew 25-1 B365
I have Kitty's Light on my to do list also but have held off for now on a class thing - and I'll no doubt add more...
Also done the related double on Meeting and Panda with The Goffer in the Topham (no idea if he runs in the race but would like his chances if he did and he looks a non stayer for the big one)
I don't think you need to stay as much as you think but you certainly need stamina after the last.
Big worry would be Corach but I might just cover him for my stakes nearer the time.

The 3 I like are
Mahler mission
Galvin
Chemical energy
The latter two definitely need it to stop raining so no bet at this stage
Galvin in particular looks nicely weighted, his mark has dropped plenty given he's not been trying
Il likely back all 3 on the day with a saver on Corach
Like you Quevega I'd be very sweet on the goffer for the topham if he lines up

I've back 3 so far. Chemical Energy, Galvin and Kitty's Light.
I'm getting rather sweet on Chemical Energy but could just do with the ground drying up a bit over the next fortnight.
He's not been seen since the Kerry National (where he ran well for a long way) but I believe the plan has always to go to Aintree fresh. The run in last seasons NHC reads well but the ground will be key.

The Hennessy has worked out well, but the best form in behind was from clear non stayers in that race.
He looks badly weighted now with corach, I am maximus, delta work, galvin and minella indo

Quite strong on Limerick Lace IF she turns up. I think the 25/1 NRNB is a small gift on Hills. She's enough experience and is a mare in form.Last edited by Might_Bite; 25 March 2024, 03:26 PM.

cashed the Goffer doubles and added 1pt at 150+ on exchange as looks more likely Gordon will send him to the big one. Can always add again if he lines up in topham that the lizard is going to win anyway
And with Limerick Lace looking like running also have added 1ptew 25-1 on her.
Kitty's now in the team also 3pt win 16-1 B365.
So that might be it until final decs 9 is enough I reckon.
Fairly confident that Meetingofthewaters if declared will be close to Fav and has an outstanding chance. Which means Panda Boy has also
(been a random drift on him today and the top 3 have all shortened)
I do fear Corach still, and Maximus and Vanillier but will have to be against them I think if the prices stay wrong.
There is reasonable arguments against all three at the prices, as they are all not that well handicapped and aside from Corach the other two have jumping issues. Certainly not armchair rides anyhow.
Have had 2 x 0.5pt doubles the other day with Nick Rockett and Corach/Noble Yeats, so hopefully he does the business Monday and I'll have 2 course specialists covered before the day for little outlay.
