  • The 2025 DRF

The biggest checkpoint on the way to Cheltenham is here.

Entries filling up, handicap prices should start to filter through this week.

An early scout through the cards and it looks like the Irish Champion Hurdle could cut up significantly, give State Man a penalty kick and leave some EW value in behind him.

At the head of the market - BDA is probably going straight to Cheltenham, Lossiemouth to Cheltenham to take on Con Hill, Anzadam to the Limestone Lad, Dysart Enos to the handicap, Fils d'Oudairies to Cheltenham or the Limestone Lad and Kargese an unlikely runner so soon after the weekend.

This leaves State Man at the head of the market at 5/4 and the probable runners in behind as Winter Fog, Colonel Mustard, Daddy Long Legs, King of Kingsfield and possibly but probably not Senecia.

Most bookies have gone 2 places but MGM remain 3 places with Winter Fog priced at 28/1 and the rest longer to fill up the places and potentially a win if State Man has completely lost it, even if Lossiemouth diverts from Cheltenham back here there's still a big priced place to pick up.

Senecia is an interesting horse - entered in the Champion Hurdle and Champion Chase at Cheltenham as well as the Irish Champion Hurdle, Gold Cup and Dublin Chase - last seen at Navan finishing 1.25 lengths behind Found a Fifty and Solness in a 2 mile Grade 2 chase at Navan and 28l ahead of a certain Banbridge in his seasonal pipe opener.

Early markets now up for all races.

        Future Prospect 6/4
Amen Kate 6/1 - taken it as cover for Future Prospect as the word is strong for her and plenty like her on here. I do like the Queally mare (9/2) and Blue Velvet is useful (8/1).

Already dutched Kaid and Kopek 3/1 each.

        Final Demand 7/4

        Ataboycharlie 25/1 e/w and McLaurey 12/1 e/w

        Lossiemouth 4/5

Green Splendour 6/1 - not sure Kalypso will go and I think Mullins will pick him so an obvious shortener.

See decs now for the rest.

I really fancy Colcannon in the bumper. Not qualified for Cheltenham (over qualified is probably more accurate).

Kalypsochance is the right favourite, but at 14/1, and with an absence of true challengers, I think Colcannon represents excellent value.

Colcannon beat Sermanzarak last year by 9l before being DSQ. He was beaten 11 lengths by Sixandahalf at Punchestown.

He the beat Heads Up on his only start this year and Heads Up gives us a lovely line through the two market principles for the Champion Bumper, including Kalypsochance.

I also like Scope To Improve, but Henry’s form
              turns me off.

I’ve had a little play on Colcannon for interest.

Kalypso wasn't declared, so this bet is definitely on now! Interested to see how they price this race up on decs.

Joystick at 40s 4p with Sky is a bet.

Always highly regarded at Closutton he was Riccis horse to follow last year, has had a couple of runs over too short and now steps up in trip. With Danny M on top - I'm seeing a similar storyline to Dancing City last year with a big improvement to come with the step up. A big staying chaser in the making but he can outrun his odds here.

Good to see the 6.5 form tested in some way as well.

Yeah, it's more heart over head for me, I'm sure.

                              8/1 seemed big though.
