It's another good looking weekend of racing.

I'm on a stag in Edinburgh from Friday through to Sunday and i'll be trying to keep my bets to a minimum over the weekend as it's safer when the drinks in!

I'll probably do a few in advance of going if i find any and maybe have a couple marked to check prices on the mornings when sober.

Probably best to leave this until Thursday/Friday when full decs are visible (mainly for Punchestown) but would be interested to hear people's main fancy or fancies of the weekend.

Enjoy! Went on a stag do in Edinburgh in September and had a great time. Some fantastic wetherspoons to enjoy . Thought we'd found a bargain with the Edinburgh House Hotel but we were basically staying in converted cupboards! They had plenty of decent looking rooms but they must have seen us coming. We did Musselburgh while there and that's a great little track.

As for bets this weekend, not a clue

Primoz in the first at Haydock. I'd make him favourite in this. 7/2 isn't a bad each way price for multiples.

Predators Gold is too short at Punchestown in what is a decent looking maiden. Jhentong Enki at 6/1 will be added to the each way multiples.

Tellherthename and State Man will go in some roll ups.

In the 1.15 at Haydock, Park Hill Dancer should be better than a 123 rated horse. Stainsby Girl might get a free one up front though. I'll see how the previous races at Haydock pan out but might be a bet.

I think there's some value in the Stayers handicap hurdle behind the front 2. Gowel Road is interesting up in trip but over a year off is a risk. NTD is in good form but this may not be his target. Santos Blue gets more weight off Crambo this time. Sees our the 3m as seen by his close 3rd behind Broadway Boy last season at Cheltenham.

I liked Affordale Fury's debut over fences. Done it easily. Good novice form and good form right handed. I couldn't trust Flooring Porter right handed.

Don't really like anything at Ascot. Pic D'Orhy is one of my favourites but got a big task to beat Shishkin. The front two in the bumper look interesting so will keep an eye on that.

Just 3 for me over the weekend.

Flooring Porter but its a bit risky as mentioned by Denman, Sandor would be my main worry, he'll be much fitter this time out and going out in trip he'd look the main danger. Wouldn't write off Quilixios too, like many triumph winners they turn out to be better over a trip later into their careers, importantly he'll also have the pace to hold his position when Flooring Porter presses the go button. Feel like some of these ahead of him in the betting will struggle in that regard.

Backed Slate Lane in the handicap at Haydock, just simply because of connections. Pretty lazy selection, but when the prize money on offer is decent you have to respect these Emmet Mullins plot horses.

Asterion Forlonge in the John Durkan tomorrow. Would have wacked Allaho in this two seasons back he was galloping all over him before pulling an Asterion 3 out, Would have been a close 2nd in a King George and then was found to be lame after the gold cup. Injury robbed him of a winter campaign last season although he did perform with credit through the spring over hurdles. Straight back in over fences is a sign in itself, he must have pleased with his work and schooling. Willie always said he'll be winning a grade 1 over fences at some point, and I think he'll be on a mission to make that statement a reality this season. Performs well first time out and leaves his best for Punchestown. Love the jockey booking too, thank god Patrick isn't onboard!

          Primoz out like a light.

Predators Gold very good. Jhentong Enki had every chance but just not good enough.

Didn't have a bet in the race but Stainsby Girl ran well. Can be tough getting the leader back when they kick round the bend at Haydock but one too good. The money for the Crawford horse spoke loads.

Gowel Road done well after a long lay off. Not sure if they'll stay over hurdles or go back over fences but I'd like to see him go for a Pertemps qualifier.

Affordale Fury ran like a drain. Something clearly up with the jockey constantly looking down. Favori was very good IMO. Proper galloper and he was very strong from the 2nd last to the line.

Glad to see Pic D'Orhy win - looked a bit flat and Shishkin probably would have beat him. Get him up to 3m at Xmas, aim him at the Ascot Chase and then Aintree again. Would love to see him at Cheltenham but Cobden will be on Stage Star and they keep saying Cobden is the key to him.

Bumper at Ascot looked good. Front 3 will all win over hurdles.

The Elliott 3 year old was very taking. 16s is more than fair for the Triumph.

            John Durkan

So tempting to lay the fav today. Gold Cup winner, coming off a busy end of the season.
Not like I'm overly confident that he will be beaten today as he is a top class horse.... however.... this is over 2m 3f

Asterion Forlonge likely to lead. I do like his, he could be anything today, but slightly put off with jockey selection - would have expected one of Mullins stable jockeys to be booked up if he was to go close

Blue Lord reminds me of Footpad. Arkle, failed to feature in the Gold Cup, before going to the King George. Wouldnt be suprised if Blue Lord turned up at Kempton in December. He may go close today if the pace doesnt materialise and this turns more of a 2 mile race

I really like Fastorslow for the GC. How many novices have scored a 165 and 175 on their first two runs over 3 miles. Cant tell whether he'll be turned right up today, so will have to leave him be. Could be a cliff horse for me this season.... ekkkk

AI - 9 and dont think he's improving.

GDC has the ability and form to win today. No question. But cant be backing him at those odds

A bit of a head scratcher so will go with Asterion Forlonge
