  • Chepstow - Jumps Opener

Was surprised there was no thread for the Chepstow curtain raiser this weekend so thought I'd start one up. Any strong fancies anyone has?

Gone for an e/w L15 today to star the season off:

1.35 Mighty Don - Won first time out a few years back on good ground round here over same distance and an attractive mark, hard to tell if he fancies it always though.
2.50 - Gladiatus - PTP form working out well and was an appealing price to take on then the 2 shorties in market
3.25 - Dancingontheedge - Won well in her bumper and think this quick ground might help her just fly on
4.00 - Holly - Stable seems to think highly of her and with how easily she won last time out she could be a a very generous mark of 125.

Really interested to see how Kitty’s Light goes tomorrow. Really fancy him for the GN. OR of 144 so wouldn’t want to be too much higher come April.

I feel a bit underwhelmed by the Chepstow opening weekend this year, I do think that if Knappers Hill can tidy up his jumping then he should be better than a handicap so I've had a small attempt at getting a roll up for Cheltenham and a single. Nothing else jumps out aside from Kitty's Light for reasons already covered.

Zabeel Champion will absolutely love the step up in distance and ground today. Gave Nurse Susan a good race last season when giving that top mare 7lbs. No weight today. He's an improver and JJ is in decent form. He could be a good handicap horse to follow this season.

I backed him today, drifted to 10's, then went back in 4.4 on exchange to place
Was strong on him today, but.... he was either poor or not good enough

Just to add how disappointed I am with this weeks racing... the silver trophy looked bad on paper, and ended up being won by top weight.. and a bunch of races with less than 5 runners

I popped out after that disappointment, only to find a spark in my step when I remembered the Welsh Champion Hurdle is on tomorrow. I started to like that race.
Looked at card for tomorrow's renewal, only has 7 f****** runners - back to the old days then when no one cared

Am I being silly by looking forward to the Oct meet at Cheltenham, I think I should lower my hopes - feels like we could again have some proper weak races
