Have had a bet on that, I think the horse lost because it was kept 50 lengths off the pace so didn’t have a chance.
Yeah likewise, an over reaction on a weird race, I'm just annoyed as I rolled him up beforehand expecting a win and price cut when I could have just played the single afterwards but hey ho.
Patrick really does have the odd toss ride in him. Ridiculous thing was inplay odds remained 1.40 more or less throughout until the last 6 furlongs (b365). Absolute crock of chunder
Absolutely, maybe he would like it a bit softer but the race was done after 4 furlongs so I'm happy to write that off and that price with cash out is a welcome knee jerk from 365
I must be missing something with James Gate, he's won a bumper against a bunch of no hopers, a third in the champion bumper albeit in extreme conditions and a shit performance today. Genuine question, what makes him value at 20/1?

I wouldn't disagree. He was obviously put in a position where he well up against it but it was still surprising how little he found. It did turn into a sprint of sorts in his defence.

He’s won his bumper in a decent RPR, backed it up with 3rd in a red hot Champion Bumper, then buggered it up in an end of season race through jockey misjudgement and I’m happy giving limited value to that run on that basis.
Can’t underestimate that he’s about the only novice hurdler for next year who’s target we are all but certain of.
That’s why I think he represents good value at 20/1. I’d have him a 14s or 16s shot as he is with most other bookies.
I think one thing to remember is not all these bumper horses are going to be top class every year over obstacles.
Yes they are starting to translate their form from bumpers to grade 1 hurdles over the last couple of years but think back 4 years even and most were shit over obstacles.

He isn't value. The Ballymore could be high class next year and IMO James's Gate won't be anywhere near the top of the novice hurdling class next year. He won a poor bumper first time up and the top 2 today in form terms didn't need to find much to be near JG based on his first bumper win.
The Cheltenham bumper was run in atrocious conditions, which inconvenienced him less than some of the others.
