    • Ugh, planned to back Amoola Gold this morning and the drift put me off. That one stings...

To make things even worse I also backed Shan Blue... hope no one else is on Johnbb

MI - fairly tricky race for him, first time out. This isnt his target, retaining his Gold Cup crown is. Dont think race tactics today will suit. Think he'll run a good race but will find one one thats better suited with today's conditions. There is a reason why Henry was so successful in March, he was able to get all of his horses peaking for the festival. So, I'll be looking at the others here, trainers who will have theirs in peak condition for today

Frodon - Actually had two tough races towards the back of the year. Running over the Gold Cup extended 3 mile, and then being pushed hard at Sandown, narrowly beating Mister Fisher. If Mister Fisher was in this race, I'm sure he'd be double figures. Irish have the upper hand over the GB horses. I think he'll travel ok, but will come under pressure 3 out. Last seasons efforts + going will be his downfall

Delta Work - not good enough, doesnt jump well enough. 3 times in this race, so unless Gord has him proper wired up for this, I'm struggling to see him win this one. Cliff horse for me, was tempted to take the 10/1's but concerned he will need the run

Galvin - Not sure how i've fell on Galvin. But here I am. There's been plenty of discussion about this horse on this forum, especially after his last race. Why would Gordon add to his handicap mark if they're targeting the grand national? Maybe Galvin was his National Horse up until Envoi Allen was moved out, is this desperation from GE to find a replacement? Or does he has a proper GC horse here.

        Outcome: Meh!
Well I wasn't sorry to be wrong about that one - the horse I wanted to win won in a proper test. One missed fence but Frodon seemed to warm to the course.
That's 33 chase runs and 16 wins including 3 Grade Ones - maybe he really is a good horse!

        • Oh the ecstasy for Frodon and Nicholls/Frost and agony for Shan Bleu and the Skeltons - still novicey but if he's ok he could challenge for the King George on that run
Fusil Raffles proved he can stay 3m and pays a compliment to Bravemansgame but surely he was a lucky winner

                • In the big race the 1.55 Haddon Gold Cup I take last year's 1-2 to repeat:
                  Greaneteen/Moonlighter

                  edit:
                  1 Eldorado Allen 9/2
                  2 Hitman 11/10
                  3 Zanza 11/1

Hmm not the same Greaneteen who was 2nd in the Tingle Creek and beat Altior in the Celebration Chase - jumped poorly but the race exposed the problem with so called super horse Hitman: he's one paced in the run in. Needs further?
EA recaptured the form of his easy Oct 20 Chelt win over Quel Destin - an autumn horse?

                            • If The Cap Fits looks a big price at 8/1 today. In my mind he's always been a mid distance horse who goes well fresh and checking his form at the mid trip confirms those thoughts, 1211. He will definitely be forming the basis of a L15 for me today!

                              • Bets today

                                - Goshen (NAP ) to go from the front and stretch Sceau Royal out. Wins (OMG, I'm backing Goshen today). SR is a decent hurdler but he's been well placed to win in some weak races. Goshens runs over in Ireland after a troubled season fills me with hope today. Trainer is great form. If ground was soft, he'd be a max bet but I'm going to back the 5 year old that could improve from last season, and predict him to bully SR today in this small field
                                - If The Cap Fits and Summerville Boy reverse forecast
                                - Kissiesforkatie to take the mares race
                                - Cap Du Nord fell out the back of the tele LTO, think he's on a decent mark and that was a prep for this. Price is short, so doubling him up with crazy Goshen today
