  • Going to Ayr next weekend for the Scottish National and just looking at a couple of the antepost books.

The Scottish Champion hurdle, Epatante could be very interesting indeed given the likely good ground she’ll get if she runs. Yes she’ll be top weight but looking at the field she’s way better than anything in there. She was 14/1 with PP but see she’s been cut not sure if somethings been said but can still get boosted 15/1 with Lads.

In the National itself I will probably back Fantastikas, as if he won I’d be gutted. The target this season was the Scottish National but given he received a nice weight they went to Cheltenham anyway. As long as that hasn’t taken too much out of him could be a decent bet at 25/1+.

Edit - Have backed Eclair Surf at 25/1 with 365 price out of sync with PP who are 12/1 and he may not make it the cut for the grand National. Also backed The Wolf at 20/1.

        Quoting my own post

Epatante looks like a short lived punt, although the price was definitely far too big.

I believe Henderson said they didn’t want to go 2 and a half with her but has said yesterday they will likely go to Aintree for the 2 and a half. Only reason I can think of is the fact it’s a week later so more recovery/prep and Aintree being a flat track she’ll cope with the step up from 2m.

          • With Epatante removed at entry stage I’ve went with Barichello at 9/1. His 2 recent wins have been boosted by both runners up, Good Risk At All was one of those who was highly expected to be involved at Cheltenham before not managing to get in. McCain and Hughes flying along as well. The other I’m looking at is Anna Bunnina who will have a 13lbs swing in the weights with Milkwood who won it last year.

In the National got The Wolf at 20/1 and Major Dundee at 25/1. The Wolf second season chaser with some not too bad staying form and was kept for this race. Major Dundee is with King who seems to be doing really well in both the jumps and flat department, being a novice is a good angle and he’s won it before with a novice.

Of the other races on Saturday I quite like the look of Dusart Minella Drama double, pretty boring but they look by far the best horses in both fields despite being top weight.

            • ….just had a little each-way interest in El Passa Wood @ 45-1 with Lads boost for tomorrows Scottish National.

Trained by David Pipe with a decent claimer as it’s regular rider, he came strongly through the field & went into the lead of the Midlands National before fading 3 out to finish 4th, this drop in distance looks ideal.

(Edit; that didn’t last long, Lads have given it a haircut, now into 25-1).

                • Quite like Fantastikas each way. NTD used to do alright here, especially with novices. And the Ultima run was decent enough.

My tracker email just came through and under The Wolf it just says SCOTTISH GRAND NATIONAL, so hopefully future Rob did that

                    • Dusart is way too short for what he has achieved. He looked way out of his league at the Festival and terribly one paced.

Sounds Russian has gears and if his jumping stands up on this faster ground he'll take all the beating.

                          • A Christian Williams 1-2 - has that been done before? A one horse race - would Kitty's Light had been closer bar the mistakes?
There will be rejoicing in Ogmore tonight! Looking bad sadly for brave Jersey Bean
