  • Well, this is pretty much a race where I dont like any of the them - in terms of their profile to go on, improve and win more later on this season

Backed Black Op when he was narrowly beaten by Slate House on Boxing day to a decent horse in Slate House who sets a good benchmark, previous to that he has ran second against the likes of Champ and Sacmro (so time ago)

Age wise, not improving but he should run a decent standard. Just worries me his prices has shifted the wrong way (... well it could be the right way if he wins :-) )

    • If Imperial wins this, would cement him as a decent horse - especially carrying this sort of weight

      • Done it nicely and a really smart ride from David Bass.

                • Couple of E/W singles I've had a go at tomorrow at Newbury:

12:55 No Risk Des Flos 16/1 - As per the Supreme/Ballymore/Bartlett thread, has had a recent pipe opening in a bumper where well supported but only managing 3rd. He'll strip fitter tomorrow, and I'm hoping he takes to hurdles well.

4:15 Diamon Des Flos 14/1 - His two full brothers, Vision Des Flos & Umndeni both made winning bumper debuts, so I went with this is and had a speculative punt on this one.

Edit: Cashed No Risk Des Flos with 365 at 7/1 for total stake back and re-backed with SkyBet at 16/1.

                          • Great work Chunkers! Not sure I've had a winner in a bumper since Barters Hill...

                            Looking ahead to the weekend:

1:00 Aintree - Quoi De Neuf 6/1. Opened up at 8s with William Hill, which shocked me as I expected him to be favourite. 4th in the Greatwood off 129 last year and only 4lbs higher now. Has won at Aintree before over this trip on his first hurdle start, beating Redzor, Captain Drake and One For The Team, which is solid form. Over half of his runs have been in graded company, so this is a big drop in class (to class 3). Evan Williams' horses always seem to improve for a fence and Brian Hughes is in the saddle. He went off 7/1 for the Greatwood and 8/1 for the old Ladbroke after that. Safe to say this should be less competetive than either of those two races.

Others I have an interest in:

Wincanton 1:50 - Fleur Irlandaise 20/1. Won off 2lbs lower at Kempton last year. Followed that up with some solid class 1 Mare's form, running just behind Indefatigable at Warwick and Floressa at Doncaster. First hurdles run of the season wasn't great, but that race has produced two winners and a Listed 3rd since then so it's fairly solid. Just thought the price was big, but pretty much anything could win this.

Aintree 2.10 - Dashing Perk 9/1. I couldn't see a lot of pace in this race, so he may be able to dictate. Ignoring his last run in the old Racing Post trophy, his form looks solid. He finished 2nd at Sandown behind Mercy Mercy Me, ahead of Cap Du Nord (won next time), Mystical Clouds (won next time) and Chef D'Equipe (won next time). He's running here off only 2lbs higher and could have scope to improve on only his 5th chase start.

Aintree 2.40 - Ch'Tibello 3/1. His last run over C&D was just behind Supasundae and Buveur D'Air. Could be one like Roksana last week where he's the one to beat getting all the weight. A really interesting race.

Aintree 3.20 - Defi Sacre 4/1. Potentially another weak race, with plenty of regressing types in it. Defi Sacre is improving, having won the last twice. His win at Newbury is looking good, with the second horse - Amoola Gold - winning twice since, including a listed race last week.

Wincanton 3.35 Potterman 10/1 (& maybe Danny Whizzbang). Nicholls pretty much farms this race and holds a strong hand again. I quite like Potterman, who is unexposed at the trip having finished 5212. The 5th was in a strong race behind Vinndication at Ascot last year. He'll enjoy the quick ground and stayed on nicely behind Secret Investor without ever looking like getting close last time. Trying to work out which of the Nicholls' horses to back is a struggle. I haven't seen the forum's number 1 Whizzbang fan for a while...

                            Enjoy the racing!

                            • Mont Segur tomorrow in the Wincanton bumper is probably my strongest bet of the season so far. He's also declared for Sunday, so see what happens.

                              • Interesting thoughts Chris, i can see why Skelton's is fav as he has run in what will turn out to be a warm novice case(Hendo 2nd the first boost to it) agree thou i'd have QDN next in the betting and not 6-13/2, being ex ptp and reaching a decent level of form over hurdles and expect his OR to be higher in this sphere come the end of the season.

I also think Ch'tibello would at worst be Jf with CML, really surprised PP/BF made Thomas Derby 5/2 2ndfav id of had him 4th fav at best. Hopefully Chti runs to previous course form and will be tough to beat.
