  • I watched cyrnames ascot chase, his win over altior and his Wetherby win over 3 miles and have possibly somewhat foolishly further convinced myself he is going to win

His jumping is so good, he took a length out of altior at every fence

In last years king George cobden had to scrub him along before the first fence and he never travelled with his usual exuberance.

Hopefully his much easier prep will mean we see the real cyrname this time, instead it's CDO who comes here having had a very hard race.

Very much looking forward to this.

    • Irish governments extend travel ban to 31st December so no Irish horses will be coming over

NH should have waited for this to be his excuse for Champ not travelling!

        • Nice gesture from PP refunding bets on Monalee for here and a few others like PTKO who were due to travel over.

Edit: Just reading others following suit, can anyone confirm?

Suppose be good tactic to so so as don't want to fall out with customers/punters over boxing day which is biggest betting day of year!

I'd be staggered if they didn't all follow suit.

They won't have taken much money relative to what they will over the next few (and more importantly, on the day).

Only a handful of horses it'll have affected too?.... so I hope you're right BB!

I did 5 horses in cross doubles and trebles for post Christmas racing. I just checked and Skybet have voided the Monalee selection for the King George

Good stuff, makes sense to 'void' it. I think deep within the rules anything like this situation comes under voided, like foot and mouth?

You say that, and I don’t disagree, but this is where bookies don’t get the credit they deserve.
I know Monalee wasn’t a short price but his absence will affect the market and punters who took a price on anything yesterday will have that price honoured.

That said, no-one can get a decent bet on with bookies these days so perhaps the overall cost isn’t much...

                  • Paddy P have a special of 5/1 for Cyrname and Epatante, max 20.

If you fancy Cyrname then it’s a chance of a better price as I’m sure we all think Epatante is a shoe in.

I haven’t decided who I fancy in the race but thought the offer was quite good.

Edit - this seemed to disappear quickly!

                    • Do we think they'd void horses all the Irish horses if they are unable to travel to Cheltenham?

                      That would properly test them.

I think so, but I hgope we don't get close to finding out

Nice shape to the race for the King George even without Monalee.

Not the most excited I've been for a King George though to be fair...

                          • My brief take on things:

Black Op: Not up to this level.

Clan des Obeaux: Mustard and my idea of the winner.

Cyrname: Travelled like a travely thing last year, don't buy Ascot bottomed him argument and that 3m Wetherby win not enough to convince me, no interest.

Frodon: Didn't like his last run and don't think he's quite up to this level (I wouldn't be shocked if he was though)

Lostintranslation: His run LTO, coupled with his run last year, coupled with the Tizzard's being barely able to buy a winner make him too short at 7/1 IMO

Real Steel: He's my EW play in the race, 3m+ might find him out but 3m round somewhere like Kempton should suit if he comes on for that first run.

Saint Calvados: First run question marks and 3m question marks leave him of little interest

Santini: I think he'll get outpaced and Nico will be at work earlier than any other Jockey, will stay on but wont have the pace to reel in CDO

Waiting Patiently: Same reasons to oppose SC, first run question marks and 3m question marks.

So all in all, CDO to win, Reel Steal second, Santini to stay on past Cyrname for 3rd.
