Joe is heavily involved already so unsure what major changes will miraculously happen, Left field but with the very slow and uninspiring start who knows this could be the year plenty are still A1 come March lads...

How good is LIT if he's being tossed about with the rest of the yard who're beyond rancid atm. And just how good were the likes of Cue Card, Native River and Thistlecrack?

I was happy with Sam Brown's and Black Op's prep runs today so have backed them for the Ladbrokes. I thought Sam Brown did particularly well as he was giving weight away. He also jumped well and the longer Ladbrokes trip will be more suitable as Honeyball was mentioning entering him in the NH Chase last year. Added bonus was B365 pushing him out to 33s when Paddy's shortened to 14s.

Both ran well, for me Sam brown is at his best in races like today small fields where he can bowl along, i really don't fancy him for a big field hcap personally.

I wonder how the handicapper reacts to todays result. Anybody know when the weights are announced for the Ladbrokes

I don't think we can conclusively say he is at his best in small fields as he has not had chance to race in a large field. I see the largest fields he has ran in are with 11 horses but he won both those races. In today's race, he had Black Op on his quarters for the first half of the race and then Imperial Aura with him from 6 out and I don't think it affected him at all. I understand what you mean with the hustle and bustle of a proper big field handicap but I'm not concerned.

That's fair enough if it was conclusive he wouldn't even have an entry would he, merely my opinion. I am surprised he has gone out to 33s on 365 as he ran a nice race can't dispute that, looking at past winners it looks safe to say Imperial will get marked around 158/9 and Windsor has ran a career best to around 152 give or take 1lbs, So the weight Sam has given he will more than likely go up 3lbs for that run if taking a literal view.

Appears I've lost plot with it being an intermediate chase it seemingly doesn't get touched( thou I'm sure Kildistart got dropped from running in one last year) seemingly only the winner will get hit with a penalty for any races he has entries in

Was that brought in to encourage more horses to run.... as some were finishing behind a graded horse in these types of races and getting absolutely walloped by the 'capper?
I think I remember Skelton ranting about it (but he could have been ranting about anything tbf)

Can they be dropped, but just not go up? I can see das logic.

I know beginners chases you can't get touched regardless of the results in them so you see plenty theoretically well in if in a hcap nto.

I can't find much in writing regarding Intermediate chases other than rules for getting in such races(many differ).Looking at last years Colin Parker race that Lostintranslation won, he arguably didn't have to run to his best to win and was eased near the end so when you consider he gave 6lbs to Count Meribel who didn't get raised you would believe he has ran to less than the 161 Or he stayed on. Meriebel would have ran to around to around his best, Kildistart was a further 7L back and whilst giving 4 lbs to the 2nd he was only dropped 1lb which if read literal seems harsh as he hasn't ran up to his rating of 156. The obvious flip to that argument is Kildistart bolted up on his previous start and whilst looking progressive you can't raise and drop horses sizeable chunks unless they are heading in one direction.

So in short it appears you can raise/drop in such races but you really have to do something out the ordinary so say a 135 horse get within a couple of lengths of a 155 horse etc is my understanding.

Ah, yeah you must be right then, now I read 'beginners chases' that does make a load more sense.

                              Well corrected

Tizzard says Slate House is an unlikely runner here & Copperhead 'a possibile runner'

Pricewise have put up Danny Whizz & Wholestone
