Great three days coming up, really looking forward to it. Cheltenham meetings warrant their own thread IMO.
1.10 - feels like pin the tail on the donkey. 20 runner handicap with 7lbs separating the lot. Not my kind of race at all, but I'll have a bet because I'm there! The obvious ones are Skatman and An Tailliur who are in form and sit at the top of the market. I'm going to take a swing here on two complete outsiders. My Bobby Dazzler @ 40's and Alohamora @ 100's. I think soft ground and a break may have caught My Bobby Dazzler out at Ascot because both his wins at Aintree were good. He battled and stayed on well and I'll back him EW to do the same with 6 places. Alohamora has run 40 times in her life and hasn't won since 2020, but is super experienced compared to most of this lot, especially in big field races. Do I think she'll win, probably not, but at 50/1 with 6 places, I think she's capable of running into a place if she can run to a similar level as she did behind Go Another One the time before last.
1.45 - I've backed Bun Doran @ 14/1 EW, purely on the basis that he's experienced around Cheltenham and if the wind op has helped, he's extremely well handicapped off 140, even at 10 years old. He was rated and ran to a mark of 160 only last year and despite the wheels coming off a bit, I'm willing to take at chance at 14/1 EW that he retains enough ability to at least hit the frame vs lots of promising 140's sorts that haven't reached BD's previous level.
2.20 - 2 runners is a bit of a joke and its a no bet race for me. I hope Gin On Lime runs with credit, but as an ante post pick I hope My Drogo wins and wins well.
2.55 - I am all over Back On The Lash @ 9/1 EW. He's schooled brilliantly (all over Talkischeap who was clumsy) and MK thinks he has a massive chance off that weight if seeing out the trip, which I think he will. I've backed BDF ante post and he's quite a keen selection of mine. I'd love to see him complete the course and gain invaluable experience. If he wins then so be it, I'll be happy. Freewheelin Dylan is a horse I'm worried about. He took to the obstacles like a duck to water yesterday and is a very live player, so I'll probably back him too.
3.30 - I like Current Mood @ 10/1 EW. I think she has a cracking chance despite needing to take a fairly big step forward. Her two wins this season have been easy wins with lots in hand, she jumps low and accurately, is off bottom weight and has speed + tons of experience in the Irish 3m P2P scene, which will stand her in excellent stead when facing the hill. I get the feeling she could be quite good and hope she can finish in the first 2.
4.00 - Samba Dancer @ 12/1 EW. Punted off the boards LTO to win here at Cheltenham, backing up wins at Stratford and Uttoxeter. I think I'm right in saying that he's the only course winner in this field and there is no way 12/1 lasts IMO. He admittedly didn't win with loads left LTO and 3lbs might catch him out, but he's definitely worth a bet at the prices. Cheltenham winner, 111 next to his name, subject to a big punt LTO, so all stacks up. I thought he'd be fav.
Good luck today folks, excited to be back at Cheltenham.
