Another fan of Manofthemountain for the PPGC
I think that weight tend is skewed slightly to lower weights due to the going - PPGC normally ran in softer conditions. So wont be ruling him out for being 3-4 lbs above that trend.
Going likely to be Good to Soft at worse, may have some Good left in it by Saturday. I like how he jumps and runs, he's get a lot of these winter types struggling to keep up with the early pace, and he'll force the less experienced chasers to make mistakes
He may find one too good, but if he remained around 14/1 on Saturday, then I'll be backing him in a single win but having a decent bet on him to finish in top 2 and top 3

Didn't really spot the weights thing. Not that bothered as i reckon Al Dancer is well in anyway.
In saying that, one of Zanza + Dostal Phil will be joining him. Prefer Zanza at this stage. Think he's better handicapped and up in trip is interesting.
A stat i found also which backs Zanza is Hobb's record with horses on their second start in nov/dec
552 bets 128 winners 23.19% strike rate 61.06% runners beaten 31.55 winners above expectation 1.33 actual/expected + 379.14 BFSP +167.12 ISP

Up The Straight is another one I like as one going under the radar a bit
Ran in the Scilly Isles, went ok for 125/1 shot considering they must have went hard for sporting John to win from the back. Was hampered, not sure whether he could have got that much closer to them but those running in that race have gone onto being rated 150+
Hard race at Sandown giving weight. That race at Cheltenham was poor, either he’s no good or tjose
runs over a heavy Sandown burnt him out - was a fairly long season
came back over a beginners chase in fine form. Runs off same mark
I think he’s a decent horse, rated 135 over hurdles,
came 3rd in a handicap hurdle in the Oct meet, carrying 11-9 whilst those ahead of him where carrying 10-2 and 10-10
He’s chase mark is only 3 lbs more of his hurdle mark which I like
Would want 20/1’s on the day tbh, will see whether he comes here or not.
oh, finished 15l off Shishkin over hurdle, 4l back from Shan blue in same race

Bit annoyed with myself with Proschema entered Saturday (as I'll be there)
Just seen he's been backed heavily for the handicap hurdle Saturday.
who'd have thought the handicapper would have left him on the same mark after Wetherby !!!!
Not me.
Perhaps the handicapper really is going to give the UK a better shot ?
edit - he went up 3lb, but the BHA site not clear as per normal.
still very lenient I reckon.Last edited by Quevega; 9 November 2021, 11:50 AM.

Case to be made that 4-1 could still be worth betting. Especially as DB's is entered in the g2, possible they'll aim higher.

Hope they both get declared.

Half tempted to use Gelino Bello in the 3.30 for a double or two- possibly with Proschema + Ontheropes.
Off Your Rocco has done well so far but beating The Little Yank 2ls off levels is hardly stellar form. Giving 5pds away he's surely susceptible.
Blazing Khal's form was franked albeit back in a bumper. To me though, the ground might be quick enough for him + trainer has stated he loves the soft previously. Though in saying that you wouldn't think he'd be running if they were that worried.

Shit race to bet on for a number of reasons, but as usual I can't help myself.
Alpha Des Obeaux 8-1 (17/2) boosted with Ladbrokes for the cross country friday seems value and he looks like one of the horses that wouldn't mind winning and is handicapped to win.
General 11/2 I think now decs are out.
edit - 8-1 across the boards now cashed and placed with skybet 5 places instead.Last edited by Quevega; 10 November 2021, 01:10 PM.

Greatwood looks weird this year
Top of the market is a JP / Henderson horse, dont do too well in this race
Then you have a bunch of juveniles from last season, again, not keen on them
Then you have a bunch of irish horses trying to repeat The Shunters from last year

20 that go for the Paddy Power GC https://www.racingpost.com/racecards...08/at-a-glance
Farinet squeaks in to the race, could have done with a bit more rain but I guess you have to give good ground a go at some time.Long bitcoin, long gold, long silver, long g/s opening day Cheltenham Festival

Am I insane for thinking Spiritofthegames can go close here ?
I assumed Skelton was targeting a nice hurdle mark for him with a view to a Pertemps bid but I hadn't realised how much his chase mark had come down.
Clearly stables second string, which should tell me how well they think Protektorat will go, but I doubt I'll be able to ignore SOTG at around 16s...
