Damn - discounted Freewheeling Dylan based on lack of recent form and long time since last run but the Kilbeggan Midlands National was a good win in a big field over a distance on similar ground where it "jumped well". There were clues to this one even at 150/1. What a price.

"Made all, jumped well, strongly pressed approaching last, kept on well run-in, strongly pressed closing strides, just held on"
You could nearly copy that description for this race.

Run wild fred jumped both the last two fences very poorly

I reckon he would have won if not for those 2 last jumps.

Looked good up to that point.

Does anyone else get annoyed when horses win the big races at prices like150/1?? 33/1....yeah I can understand that kind of price but in a big race like today’s Irish GN a 150/1 should not be winning unless something chaotic happens to the rest of the field . Massive sour grapes and poor mans pocket talk from me but there were some horses in behind that should have been much closer up with the pace at the finish, RWF threw the race away. My cousin backed Freewheeling Dylan at 250/1 before the off for his wife, that’s an amazing price but it should have had no chance of the rest of the field were still standing

All about the ground TKP, every Irish horse spends all Winter ploughing their way through the mud and when ground gets better the market dismiss horses that are out of form.
I read earlier that connections backed him at 66/1 amd pressed at 100/1 and 150/1 but if they thought 66/1 was value that should tell us something.
This race is generally all about weight, Latest Exhibition has run a belter but couldn’t quite concede all that weight, Nolan had plenty of options for the horse and I doubt he’ll be sleeping easy tonight with the choice he made...

Latest exhibition jumped left at most of the fences and never really looked comfortable going right handed to me

hes clearly got a huge engine to be finishing as close as he did

Theres nothing worse than your horse finishing 2nd to a triple figure longshot

Robin De Carlow was going great (and jumping better than I'd dare hope) when Rachael felt something was amiss. Turns out to be a fractured pelvis that will require 8 to 12 weeks standing box rest. Hopefully not life threatening but, if she makes it back to the track it won't be until the end of the year.

RWF was a gut punch, no point pretending here. Was gutted he missed Cheltenham, backed him quite strongly for this and he's done by a 150/1 shot. You almost have to laugh, almost.

He was target trained all season with a view to preserving his handicap mark, so I don't agree with that view at all. Ultimately he's beaten a good field and a couple of jumps have cost him. He's a very live player in the NHC next year.
