2 30 Lingfield
ew SOLAR GOLD 10/1 (bet365)
This race has favoured the 4yo+ age in recent years with 5 of the last 6 winners being older horses.
Haggas has won 2 of the last 3 runnings and 3 of the last 7 and he clearly targets the race.
Solar Gold is a Haggas trained 4yo, she is drawn in stall 12 but that shouldnt be an issue as the last 2 winners were drawn 11. Haggas is in good form with 6 winners in the last 2 weeks and does well at the track.
Solar Gold was 2nd to FOREVER IN DREAMS over 6f in a haydock listed race 1st time up. That horse was already fit having had a run and was 2nd to ADVERTISE in the Commonwealth cup at Royal Ascot next time and was also 3rd in the champion sprint.
Solar Gold then proved her effectiveness on polytrack when 1.5 l 3rd to the 1000 Guineas winner BILLESDEN BROOK over 7f at Chelmsford in a listed race. Billesden Brook won another group 1 last time out.
She was 2nd in The Bunbury Cup handicap beaten just 1/2 length.
She didnt handle the track at goodwood in a group 3 when 13th of 17.
She was only beaten 2 lengths in The Atlanta Stakes at Sandown which is a race that is traditionally domonated by 3yos. He ran well amd was best of the older horses.
She was sent off 9/2 fav for a group 3 at Doncaster but was not partnered by her regular rider Tom Marquand. He was disappointing and only 10th. Breathtaking Look won amd Preening was 2nd. Bretahtaking Look has to carry a group winners penalty this time. Those 2 horses were 20/1 and 14/1 and it was a surprise they beat Solar Gold. Willie Haggas is taking them both on again which is a tip in itself.
She was 4th of 5 last time in a Newmarket group 2 won by group 1 winning MUSTASHRY.
She clearly has plenty of ability and has multiple formilnes with group 1 winning horses that gives her a big chance in this polytrack listed race. She handles the surface well and without doubt has the ability to land this race.
The daughter of Sea The Stars looks an excellent price at 10/1 to pass this test for a trainer who targets this race and will have her ready to win. The first time tongue tie could help and she can finally get on the board fpr the first time this season.qq
