Ironic that he'll always be remembered for that when the resultant injury probably put paid to him at the highest level. He looked like real top class stayer in the making. Good to see him out in one piece.

He fell at the last when coming to win the big Grade 1 at Leopardstown didn't he.... so I'm not sure that mistake did cost him.... but certainly never repeated that form again as far as I can recall. I backed him often enough

Sadly Western Ryder has not recovered from his injury and developed deteriorating arthritis in the joint, the decision was taken to put the horse down.
A horse who, had he been better trained, would have won a top prize...
