AVANT TOUT gets his season underway at Naas on Sunday in a Grade 3 2m Chase (1.10). His owners have made no secret of the fact that they intend to run him in the Hennessy but having left Djakadam a little short two years ago, Mullins was keen to get a run into this six-year-old beforehand. This seems a good place for him to start his campaign for all that the 2m trip is some way short of what he is set to encounter at Newbury in a few weeks’ time. He faces a pretty strong field despite there being just the four rivals and the biggest danger looks to be Alisier D’Irlande who was impressive when winning two chases last term, before falling short in Grade 1 company at Aintree. In terms of a betting proposition it is hard to weigh up how important this particular race sits in his list of priorities. However, on official ratings he looks the one to beat and as he likely to be ridden towards the head of affairs, he should be able to dictate matters. I don’t envisage him being too short in the betting and would advise a small win bet, taking his other targets into account
