  • One Jump Ahead

I was just looking to see when Mark Howard was releasing this year's book, this was from his website.

    September 2, 2016

Apologies for not updating the Diary for a few days but I have been adding the final touches to One Jump Ahead, which will be going to the printers early next week. I will be sending out letters with full details of OJA, the Updates and 3 months Email Service to previous clients next week. All being well, OJA will be published in mid September. It will be possible to order OJA etc via the website shortly. The site will undergo a facelift in the next few days with full ordering details.

In terms of this year’s edition, there are 12 stable interviews with Gordon Elliott, Brian Ellison, Harry Fry, Warren Greatrex, Philip Hobbs, Malcolm Jefferson, Alan King, Paul Nicholls, Ben Pauling, David Pipe, Dan Skelton and Harry Whittington. Regular contributors Anthony Bromley (Bromley’s Best Buys) and Declan Phelan (Irish Pointers) have written articles. There are two new sections this year, namely Half A Dozen Handicappers (six handicappers to follow, five of which have changed yards during the summer and are expected to improve significantly this winter) and French Revolution. The latter feature nominates 27 horses who raced in France last season but have joined either British or Irish yards during the spring/summer. Eighteen of the horses are now trained by Willie Mullins with the majority owned by either Gigginstown House Stud (5), Rich Ricci (7) or Graham Wylie (3) – there are some potentially very exciting horses amongst those discussed. There are also four horses bought by J.P.McManus who will be racing on this side of the English Channel this winter.

That’s the good news – now for the bad. Unfortunately, there won’t be an interview with the aforementioned Rich Ricci, despite the fact he is mentioned on my advertising publicity. Due to his workload, Rich is unable to meet my printer’s deadline – the book needs to go to the printers early next week. It is disappointing because his article during the last two years has been hugely popular with readers. However, I have included seven of Rich’s new French imports, plus his only Irish point purchase this summer in OJA.

Can't say I'm that bothered that there's no Ricci interview.

There's a few decent publications around, I bought The Final Flight and I've borrowed the Paul Ferguson jumpers to follow from a friend.
Never seen Mark Howard's but I'm sure it's informative

I've bought it for the last 10+ years. The first year I bought it Monet's Garden featured in his 40 to follow as a novice hurdler, so it was a while ago. Haven't bought Paul Ferguson's but I've seen him on a couple of podcasts and I've been very impressed.

My copy has arrived. Haven't had chance to read it in detail but have backed Barters Hill to win any race - gets a really good write up and said to have summered well

Declan Phelan is an excellent judge and his thoughts are well worth reading about

First time i bought mark howards book , last year i ordered paul ferguson jtf
Which was quite good . Mark howard flagged up activial now with neil mulholand Which looks quite intresting for the bet victor gold cup 12 november Looks a decent ap bet, i quite like the new stable, breathing op angle and N.M knows how to improve a horse. Annacotty scored of 147 So it may be worth a punt on activial at 25-1. Hope he targets this race and pays for the book , beer + burger.

Is it worth me getting this One Jump Ahead at this stage or is it a bit too late? (£9.99 in a flyer I've had through from RP today)
