Big Baz - trainer William muir- mile championship?

Big Baz could also return for All-Weather Championships Finals Day following an impressive victory in the mile £19,000 Ladbrokes Handicap.

Trainer William Muir said: "Big Baz's last run was on very, very soft ground and he was struggling early on. He was off the bridle the whole way but his class got him through it.

"I was worried today because he likes to warm up, like he did his last two or three runs, but today he has jumped and travelled - that it what he is like at home. He was working like that the first time he came here and I thought nothing could beat him.

"I didn't think nothing could beat him today because I thought it was a competitive race but he has mown them down and it was very good.

"It's a big choice now whether to change my mind and go for the Carnival in Dubai or give him another couple of runs and go for Good Friday. He could have a qualifying run out in Dubai, which makes it more interesting.

"He would have to be a contender for the Ladbrokes Mile on Good Friday because this was a good performance. Martin said that he never had to worry about finding a gap because he knew that the horse has an instant turn of foot.

"His half-sister is Giofra and she won a Group One, so this is a family of high-class horses."

Martin Dwyer added: "Big Baz has been running well in the summer on the turf but enjoys this surface and, for a big horse, he has got a really good turn of foot. I didn't have to panic and look for an opening - I waited until we turned in and he picked up really well.

"I was never worried because I knew that he would pick up. I thought that I would have to be really unlucky not to win. I waited until we swung off the turn and, when you ask him, he really accelerates. It's pretty impressive for a big horse like that."

Hurricane Higgins - Ryan Moore booked. (Marathon)

Henderson, who enjoyed three winners from three runners today, was not at Lingfield and had not had a chance to talk to Fanning or the owner Alan Spence so he has not finalised any plans for Hurricane Higgins yet.

The trainer said: "It was a fantastic performance today, I cannot really believe it.

"Hurricane Higgins has been with us since the start of the season and he stays like nothing on earth as well as being a very good jumper.

"But we did not want to win a hurdle with him at this stage of the season and so decided to go to Lingfield today.

"He was turned out in a field for over a year but came to us fully repaired. I need to talk to the owner and Joe who used to ride Hurricane Higgins when he was trained by Mark Johnston.

"We have the option of Good Friday now but I want to see how the horse is in the morning and then formulate plans."

Spence said immediately after the race at Lingfield: "It is incredible. Hurricane Higgins probably need the race as well as he has been off the racecourse for nearly two and a half years.

"The race was run his way - they went pretty quick and a gap came and we won.

"Hurricane Higgins was turned out in Mark's (Johnston) field for 18 months because he had bad legs and Mark recommended we went jumping with him because of his legs.

"He went straight from the field to Nicky Henderson last summer. He jumps well over hurdles.

"We ran Hurricane Higgins today because he was rusty after all that time off - he is a big horse and we thought he would need the run."

            FAST-TRACK QUALIFIERS - £200,000 Coral Easter Classic

November 15 Lingfield Park Coral Churchill Stakes (Listed)

            Battalion
“I thought he had the race in his pocket with three furlongs to run last time at Newbury but he waited for the others to come by so I asked Tom to wait a bit on him today. I couldn't do anything about the pace from where I was but that was always going to be the problem because I couldn’t see a front-runner this morning. He has got ability and, even though he is by Authorized and out of a Halling mare, he has always had a bit of speed. This was worth a try and it has paid off. This opens up a few avenues for us and I am glad that I have got one qualifier.”

            William Haggas, trainer

February 21Lingfield Park coral.co.uk Winter Derby Trial (Listed)

            Grendisar
“The plan has always been to run here, go for the Winter Derby and then Good Friday. He is a lovely horse. He started with a rating of 65, is up to around 110 now and I don't think that we have got the best out of him yet. I was worried today because, knowing him, he hits the front and then you need the line - he was coming back to Lamar at the end. You know that he has ability. He travelled so well through the race and picked up so I knew that he was going to get there but, at the same time, you have to time it right. He was performing so well over a mile and a half and is probably giving his best now over a mile and a quarter. I think that there is a little bit more to come from him over this distance.” Marco Botti, trainer

March 6 Dundalk, Ireland www.valuecentre.ie Race

            Shalaman
“The owners planned this and Chris (Hayes) said he'd be a much better horse in better company but Shalaman was 19lb wrong with the favourite on the ratings. Since the last run, he’s turned inside out and I’ve never seen him like it. He ran a tremendous race to win. We'll have to go to Lingfield now. Hopefully, he'll turn up in the same sort of form. It is great to have a qualifying race at Dundalk.” Matthew Smith, trainer

March 14Lingfield Park coral.co.uk Winter Derby (Group 3)

            Tryster
“Adam Kirby has given Tryster a fantastic ride around there. You know Adam - he can go from the front or in behind with no fear because he was the best horse in the race. We said to him beforehand to go out there and ride with a plenty of confidence, win lose or draw, and he that is what he has done. Tryster has thrived and he is an exciting horse going forward. We will all re-group, see where we go from here and, obviously, he could potentially run in the Easter Classic here on Good Friday. He had an easy campaign as a juvenile and three-year-old and is thriving now. Hopefully, we will see a bit more yet from him. There’s no reason why he wouldn't equate this form to turf. We didn’t pinpoint him out to be a synthetic horse - it was just that we came to the end of last season, thought that this was a horse with low mileage and we will let him develop over the winter.” Charlie Appleby, trainer

              Lingfield 14:40 - Tempus Temporis
Tempus Temporis made little impact on his first three outings, but his form has taken off since being fitted with blinkers, winning by wide margins at both Kempton and Chelmsford. The manner in which Tempus Temporis stormed clear at Chelmsford last time left a deep impression, and he can continue to climb up the ladder by taking this en route to making his mark in pattern company later in the season.
              Lingfield 15:15 - Sovereign Debt
Captain Joy and Mindurownbusiness have developed likeable all-weather profiles, and are expected to go well, but it's worth remembering that Sovereign Debt found only Farhh too good in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes two seasons ago, and plenty of ability evidently remains intact based on his victory at Wolverhampton last time, when he finished powerfully to overhaul a very smart rival. That win came over seven furlongs, but the return to a mile will pose no problems for Sovereign Debt and he can make his class count.
              Lingfield 16:45 - Anglophile
This looks like being fought out between the Godolphin pair of Anglophile and Hidden Gold, with preference given to the former as he created such a taking impression when storming clear to win over C&D last time. Anglophile had displayed progressive middle-distance form prior to bolting up last time - on his first start at a near-two-mile trip - and his speed can prove a potent weapon against these more-established stayers.

Tryster for me, i have him in a double with Tamarkuz who recently won in Meydan...high cruising speed and a turn of foot to get him out of trouble. My only slight concern would be the jockey as its first time up for Buick...get it right William.

With the poaching of Buick and Doyle you have to think Godolphin are up for a big year globally and i'll be expecting a few surprises from them with around 400 horses in training, especially if their winter campaign is anything to go by...then theres the challenge from al shaqab and qatar racing success = big kudos to the winner amongst these elite owners...

Lexington Times has drifted I've noticed, he looks head and shoulders above the rest to me in this, and from the little all weather racing I watch one thing I've noticed is that Lingfield is the only track where it seems they regularly come in from off the pace. So given this and the fact Richard Hughes is best on a hold up horse I've had my only bet of the day, so far, on him at 5/2 with 365.

Hi Mac Lexington Times does look good in this and his nearest challenger from the Godolphin trio may come from Tempus Temporis who is entered in the dante hopefully Lexington Times has too much toe for him.

Haha very true Mac i'm more passionate about racing whilst waffling about oilies i can't help but turn to humour(well attempted humour anyway).

I did a post earlier that hasn't appeared with a link(are they allowed)to Godolphin's web page and the amount of horses they have in trainnig globally(around 400)this year tying into their success this winter on the AW in GB and competition from Qata racing and Al Shaqab racing this year meaning the winner between those owners amounts to major macho kudos leading to a few surprises this flat racing year from Godolphin who i'll be following for the first time for a long time as they attempt to recapture former glories...

Thanks for the welcome Mac and as always...best of luck.
