I always back a Sue Smith runner each way in this, usually along with something else looking for an ew angle again, I nearly always stick to double digit prices where possible, I think, strangely enough, highly weighted horses have a much better record in this than the English version

I did some work on this race earlier today (a slow work day !).
There have been a couple of established, older weight carrying performances but generally the profile needed for this race is very similar to the Irish National with unexposed lightweights (preferably novices) the place to look.

Of the established horses Al Co 16/1 (if he takes part) and Houblon Des Obeaux 25/1 appeal most, but the progressive Sego Success 14/1, Broadway Buffalo 12/1 and The Last Samuri 16/1 are where I will focus.

Good ground suits this bunch too.

Raz De Maree 33/1 is also an interesting runner.....

Can't disagree with your shortlist Istabraq - market looks more or less right.

At a bigger price I wondered if the Wayward Prince revival might continue ?

MG - I think he's 11 now, can we trust an exposed 11yo against younger rivals ?
                      I'm not sure.

Must admit I had to look twice at the age of Houblon Des Obeaux, that horse seems to have been around for years and I had to check two sources to confirm he was only 8, I was convinced he was around 10.
His Hennessy form looks decent now....

I've backed a couple that you mention Istabraq. It looks like Al Co will have perfect conditions and unseating at the first last week isn't much of a negative. I also like Broadway Buffalo (took 12/1) and Sego Success as they look progressive and the marathon trip should suit.

Cause of Causes ran well in the National so can't see why Broadway Buffalo won't run well with an extra week rest.

I have HDO down as an early season soft ground horse and he has been good to me on that basis.hennessy form looks very solid so might need to have another look.

Looking at AP - Nichols horse as main bet.

The ground argument could be right, I just think he's a genuine horse who goes on any surface.

I put a line through him initially when I looked at his post Cheltenham form over the years which is, to say the least, disappointing, but on closer inspection Venetia has been running him 7 and 8 times a season so by the time April comes along the horse is probably ready for the field, for whatever reason she has only sent him to the racecourse 4 times this year so will arrive at Ayr reasonably fresh.
I could be way off here but it could just be that Cheltenham exertions empty the horse but I'm keener now he's only raced 4 times before this.

I know connections were very keen on his chances in Lord Windermere's Gold Cup, he may have kicked off 50/1 but he was quietly fancied and any horse with the expected ability to run into a GC place should go very very close in this.
His Denman form also looks good....
