I don’t mind the draw for Fierceness… nothing outside him to stop him getting a position… I’d be more concerned of the inside path for Sierra Leone

Yeah it's not the end of the world for Fierceness and better than being inside, Velazquez should have options if he breaks well. Sierra was always going to be towards the rear but that will indeed be tough to weave through the traffic without having to check, needs to maintain momentum or those just off the pace will be gone by the time he rounds the home turn. Dornoch sure to set it fast if he can get out from the 1 cleanly.

Thursday evening? Apparently there could be showers at Churchill downs so could throw up a sloppy track

                  Sounds good to me.

I think the last time Aidan only sent one to the 1000 guineas was Love and she was more an Oaks filly.

I wonder if connections are down playing her a bit to get a better price to lump on.

She is more an oaks filly to me imo.

Damn, he had a great workout too and that's what made them initially go for it. He'll be off to the preakness then vs the Bafferts..

                        • Does Fierceness being in 16 make a big difference with the withdrawal of Encino?

Not really, but he does have a speed horse on the outside of him in Epic Ride now, so something to think about there. With him, Fierceness, Track Phantom, Society Man and 1 or 2 more, there's going to LOTS of speed at the front end

Post draws for Kentucky will be on 27th I believe, could make a big difference to the likes of Fierceness who wouldn't want to be too wide or too low and get shuffled back down the rail or go 5 wide most of the way. I think Sierra Leone would be the least inconvenienced by a 'bad' draw given his run style.

Personally only City of Troy and Rosallion are sticking out for me in the 2000. Rosallion is in a couple already although the ones he's in have taken a hit with non runners. Leaning towards adding Troy again at the moment.

The Kentucky Oaks has always been a difficult one for me personally to find the winner, seems to be something from left field that always crops up and improves markedly on the day but Leslie's Rose was impressive last time out and Just FYI is entitled to come on from her run too. Tarifa has been very solid if not spectacular. Might just come down to price with 3 or 4 you could make a solid case for.

1000 guineas wouldn't be a confident pick from me, I read that Brilliant will be aimed there now but for me it's another race where you could have 10 different winners if run 10 times. Hoping Fallen Angel goes well though.

With that said how about we all take a race each for this final yankee? I'd be happy to take the 2000.. (sorry) HoldenTheReins would you be OK to take the 1000? and Zachx02 parimutuel take one of the Kentucky races?

Could put our selections in after the post draws on Saturday night or Sunday 28th and hopefully we'll have ourselves a payday with 4 winners!

Firstly, thanks MP for starting this Yankee thread. It's really spiced up an already exciting weekend of top flat racing

For the Kentucky Oaks I'm selecting Just F Y I

From a physical point of view she looks a picture, she's really grown into a strong filly and wouldn't look out of place against the colts in the Derby

Since coming second in the Ashland ( her only race this season) I think she's the horse who will improve the most and is on an upward trajectory

All her works have been exemplary, athletically gliding around Churchill and eating up the ground with every stride, she's the one that catches the eye

Let's hope Friday gets us off to good start
