OCEAN WIND - Not Eligible for the Cesarewitch, and wont be going jumping.

Hopefully bookmakers will refund every antepost bet taken on the horse today, for the Cesarewitch, without being asked.
Hr never met the qualification for the race, and the BHA/Weatherbys should have been clear on this when the trainer attempted to enter him in the first place.

Roger Teal the trainer stated today in the Sporting Life:-

With plans therefore thrown into disarray, the Lambourn-based trainer is unsure when and where Ocean Wind will make his next competitive appearance, but it seems unlikely he will return to the National Hunt sphere for a jumping career.

Teal added: “There’s a couple of options. I wanted to see what his handicap mark was today (Tuesday), and he’s rated 96.

“I’ll just have to have a look what’s in the programme book for him now. The trouble is there’s very few opportunities over a longer distance, so he might have to step back to a mile and a half. Ideally he wants a mile and six (furlongs) to two miles.

“He obviously started off in bumpers, but he’s still a colt and not very big, which is why we wanted to go down the Flat route to see how he coped with that – and obviously he’s coped well.

“The owner isn’t a massive jumping fan, and now he’s set his stall out on the Flat and looks like he’s going to be a high-quality stayer.

“I’m not sure what’s happening with the All-Weather Championships going forward, but you’ve got the Marathon if that all goes ahead, so we could look at that.

“Plans are a bit up in the air at the moment. It’s upsetting for everyone that he can’t run in the Cesarewitch, but it is what it is – and we’ll just have to brush ourselves off and get on with it.”

Why isn't he eligible for the Cesarewitch?

Only had 2 runs on the flat before entries closed.

Standard rule always was minimum three runs to get a handicap rating.

Relaxed this season to 2 runs gets a handicap rating, for regular handicaps, but early closers like the Cez have stuck to 3 runs at time of initial ratings.
Which is okay, but Weatherbys/BHA should have refused Ocean Wind's entry.

        Cheers Saxon.

I like Imperium for the Cesarewitch. Probably needs to pick up a penalty to get a run but entered this weekend so hope to see him go well.

FM, is Imperium the horse you said you had found a few weeks ago ? You were very bullish on something...

Hoping Balgair gets declared for the Cambridgeshire.
            Took the 50's earlier today.
            missed the bigger prices.
The win at the weekend was super impressive over course and distance.
A good draw and jockey and it ought to have a shout.

Sacred is looking likely to run on saturday in the Cheveley Park Stakes 6F At 2 25 (that has to be a good omen that its the owners sponsored race ) and the ground looks in favour at GF plus has Course form.. I feel this horse is had genuine excuses each time she's lost and is priced up at 6/1 in some places (william Hill) . Haggas has confirmed shes 'definatley running' so I think 6/1 William Hill are offering is great value. She is becoming expensive to follow but maybe one last chance at those prices ??

William Haggas is considering trying Sacred in headgear as she bids for Group One glory in the Juddmonte Cheveley Park at Newmarket on Saturday.

Is ground going to remain good though ?
I really like Happy Romance so hope sacred runs to keep prices healthy.

I think so - https://www.turftrax.co.uk/going_maps.html is currently over 8 on the turf trax and there doesn't look much rain forecasted. I think it will be good at worse, likely remain Good to firm. Happy romance very progressive but is she a group 1 horse? Sacred has the beating of her twice by some way already....

I hope I am right with sacred, one part of me thinks she just isnt progressing but if you watch her races back she has obvious excuses and has run into another group 1 horse in Camponelle. Its a weak group 1 and the main danger imo is Miss Amulet, its significant that moore is booked considering there is two AP horses booked to run. Sacred dwelt the start when she raced Miss Amulet and Marqaund had to work to get a position and used some energy and that was on good to soft- so 6/1 EW seems a bet and I think she is due a good break and for connections the Cheverly Park Stakes would be a good one to win!

He is Ista. haven't backed him yet but he's entered to run on Friday evening at Haydock. A win will see him sneak into the Ces but I will wait to see what he does Friday first.

Drawn in 26 is just about perfect I reckon.
                        Jimmy Quinn will do.

The rain looks pretty heavy tomorrow.

For the cambridgeshire I've already backed Balgair ew @ 50's - who's not ran on soft since he was 2. But his win last week over 9f was the furthest he's ever been since then also. So hopefully it's the trip that helps as he looked better than ever.

I've backed Majestic Dawn today with Hills @ 75-1 ew, who does like softer going, judging by his form and ran well in this race last year.

Finally, and so far. I've also backed anything today at 45-1 ew, and he has ran over further and doesn't mind any ground. They may well have been aiming for this race I reckon.

Not sure yet, which of the three year olds would be my pick, as nothing stands out. But 3 year olds and high draws look like a recent trend.

I'm with you on Majestic Dawn Q. He's only 40s with Hills now and I thought that was a good price! Came a good 5th in this last year and you would hope there has been more improvement from 3 to 4 than the 3lbs he is higher now by. Won't mind the soft ground and I'm hoping this has been the plan all year as he's only had one run this season a couple of weeks ago.

Had an each way bet on Good Birthday tomorrow at 28/1. Backed him for it last year and he ran a good race in third. Hasn't been in the same kind of form this year but his mark has dropped as a result.

                              Hopeful, rather than confident
