Andy Holding has put up a tip today

    2021 2000 Guineas

Getting involved in the first Classic of next season at this stage is always fraught with danger, so you need to backing something at a juicy enough price to warrant the risks and in the shape of MITHRAS (best price 50-1), his current 50-1 quotes look worth taking.

Seemingly not overly fancied for his debut at Sandown several weeks ago, hence the 11-1 starting price, John Gosden’s colt proceeded to fluff the start which immediately put him on the back foot and he was still miles off the pace as the field turned for home. Making up a tremendous amount of ground in the latter stages, the son of Dubawi whistled by most of his rivals in the final three furlongs and in hitting the line full of running, he gave out the sort of signals that suggested we were witnessing a special talent in the making. In running the final four furlongs almost two seconds quicker than eventual winner, One Ruler, he finished just behind subsequent winners Maximal and Latest Generation and in front of Tawaareq and My Swallow who have both gone on to score readily since, so as far as a piece of juvenile form goes, the race at the Esher track was about as good as it gets regards a maiden contest. Entered in the Dewhurst next month, today’s performance will obviously determine whether Mithras ends up going down the Group-race route this season, but either way, hopefully he will prove good enough to mix it against pattern opposition in the long term and now looks as good as any to invest in this highly-promising colt.

50/1 is with 365 (and others) - obviously the cash out potential if he flops makes the appeal. The cashout is currently 100% of stake.

Bet365 seem to be cuter on the reprice of this tipster-led antepost pre-race move, by going 100/1 post race to limit cashout returns.

What percentage return can you get from them on that? 60%?

Maybe it’s something that they will repeat on Cheltenham Festival betting on Novice Hurdlers that have had support for the Festival before they run in a trial race, and then don’t run as well as hoped.

              52% for mine (went e/w)

Optons are to just leave it until he runs again.
Cash out and back at 100/1 (which may be an over reaction)
Back it at 100/1 and wait for him to shorten.
Cash out and take the loss on the chin as the equivilant of a loss today.

              All viable.

I'm not watching, will watch a replay at some point and decide whether he has any potential still.

Hope not too many people were reeled in.

Was 50/1 on a horse fourth in a maiden (already devalued by the subsequent run of One Ruler) really going to represent value? These days does anyone put up a horse without throwing in some time angle to make it sound half convincing. Was this guy all over the likes of Kinross and Visionari?

I don't know how to respond to this properly. Are you trying to be antagonist?

Don't know what it is about Andy Holding, but when you listen to him on pods etc. he just doesn't sound like he has much of a clue. I know that's not the case, as his figures obviously produce some sort of success.

KB, using Kinross + Visinari as a stick to beat the time boys is so short sighted. Everyone with any sort of system or method of identifying performances makes mistakes.

                        Jack,

I don't even think these were mistakes, their times were quick, the horses just were unable to replicate or improve as some other fast-timed debutantes had in the past.

                        Nothing is 100% successful.

                            Wembley 12/1
St Marks basilica 11/1 (price boost)

Watched all of the big 2yo trials on YouTube and to me the dewhurst looked the best one. The form of all the other trials seemed to tie in with this race with the front 3 in it looking the best. Sided with the two Aidan Obrein horses as id be very dubious about thunder moon staying the mile strongly enough to win.

Obviously battleground is the hype horse due to his breeding but I’m not sure how strong his form actually is and there is talk of him going straight to royal ascot.

FYI Betstars have Battleground @ 8/1 and he’s 9/2 in places elsewhere. I could only get 1.5pts on and in a few multis but best price by a long way
