Think someone said it earlier on the thread, Goodwood a notoriously 'hard luck story' festival generally.

    • Backed Tommy G (for tomorrow) @ 7.04/1 once Prompting won. See the price is just disappearing fast.

That was probably the worst day of the season for the Maktoum/Crowley combination.

Qaader just hasn't gone on from that Newbury debut. Almost certainly too many races in quick succession and it wouldn't be the biggest surprise if he never wins again. I called English King right but the horse most likely to take advantage has gone from travelling best to nothing in a few strides. Nazeef was the first beaten and shaped as if she wanted a mile and a half. A strange performance. Finally the icing on the cake, Gordon yesterday topped by Doyle today. Nobody should get into that much trouble in a nine horse race on any track. Strength in the saddle is sometimes an issue.

The one ray of sunshine was avoiding William Bligh who turned in a woeful effort in the nursery.

Apologies in advance to anyone who might have backed any of these:-

            Under The Stars EW
            Khaloosy
            Sir Busker EW

This is the right trip for Under The Stars but clearly the favourite will be tough to beat. Khaloosy should dot up but I have said that before this week. Sir Busker should have won last time but he was wayward and weaving a passage will be the challenge.

            Strangely, all have been supported.
I think it actually did get worse.

Under The Stars looked likely to challenge for a place at one point before stopping quickly and being pulled up. The favourite got incredibly lucky. Something I wouldn't mind a dose of before I end up penniless. I dread to think by how much Khaloosy has under performed. All that promise and then that. As I speak Varian 2/24. Sir Busker just ridden for luck and never likely to get any. Add to Arigato and Miss Chess. You will do well find any horse with a more terrible passage this week than those three. Murphy riding very poorly at the moment. Cue a bonanza tomorrow. That seems to be the way of the weighing room.

On a general point one of the most difficult problems for a punter these days is deciding which horses can act on good and which can act on good to firm. The difference for many seems as much as good and soft, if not more. Years ago top horses were judged on running on good on firm but now they are seemingly unable to cope. Are we breeding a much weaker animal?

Already backed Summerghand EW tomorrow but almost certainly won't be watching. You can only hit yourself against a brick wall so many times.

I'm a big fan of Oisin's but he hasn't been great with a liking for that inside rail this week! I think Sir Busker had loads left if he had managed to get out.

              • Had a miles better day personally on the
                Luck in running front

But this course and others like it would benefit from a cut away for sure.
                Always farer that way.
Without it the front runners will always head for the rail unless ground differs. And the wide runners will always look to hold others in.

That’s what I thought as well, Weaver was trying to say he did it too late.

He gave the horse a smack when it started drifting right and again but seemed to do the opposite and made it go even more right!

                      15.35 - Watan/Summerghand/Open Wide

Main bet is Watan and it would not surprise me if his price shortens considerably. Hannon has always thought highly of this horse and I think this race has been the plan for long time for his owners who sponsor the festival. I really liked the way he travelled in his prep race and was not given a hard time. He only got one hit of the whip and was then just hands and heels. Nahaarr won well with Maquand having to work hard but will now be 7lbs worse off against a race fit Watan. I would much rather be on at 16s than 4s.
As low as 8/1 in places now. Cracking value, lets get him home now! I followed you in 18s Bet Vic and 16s bet 365. Moore seems to be meaning business this week so lets hope he keeps the intensity up !

                        1 point Marquand 16/1
                        0.5 point De Sousa 33/1
Well it’s looking ok with Marquand flying the flag going into the final day with 5 winners. Moore looks chief danger with 4. Marquand in front on count back with 2nd place finishes as well so mr happy needs 2 winners tomorrow if Marquand draws a blank.

I worry about you with comments like this.

WTF does this really mean ?
And HTF are you ever going to know anyway ?

In my mind (got my own issues by the way) it sounds like a mad thing to concern yourself with.
                          Although I do agree it's a difficult problem ?
It's a problem you don't need to solve I reckon.

A bit like worrying how much oxygen vs nitrogen you inhale on each breath ?

                          • Another dreadful day to end a shocking week. Al Quaqa, My Oberon, Liberty Beach, Communique & Desert Encounter will be added to the bitter list of flat horse failures from a week to forget!! Backing favourites and 2nd favourites again in the hope the tide would turn and another end of afternoon moaning with not a sympathetic ear around. I hate Goodwood, I hope it’s sold off for social housing and a giant Asda superstore built on the finish line!!!

That’s me done for a fortnight, I’m placing myself in betting jail. Self imposed and no release for good behaviour. Good luck all, I’ll be back with my usual banal, ill judged and unimaginative diatribes and comments soon but I need a break.

See you on the other side TKP

I know I've posted hardly anything and this is technically after timing.... my Goodwood has been:

                              Staked: 65.6 pts
                              Return: 53.1 pts

Looks pretty uninspiring tomorrow at the moment but I've not had a drink yet

***Forgot to add the ante post Goodwood bets, so I'm a bit further down.

Know exactly where you are coming from . Sounds like me 20 years ago. It's true what those shitty adverts say... .....'Once the fun stops'. It's the reason I just bet when I go racing now and only build an Ante Post book every year on the Cheltenham festival only as I go Monday to Saturday. Was hard to do at first but comes naturally now. Amazing to think there is a life outside of betting !
