            you aren't alone!

I hate Goodwood for betting and nothing that I've watched this week has changed my opinion.

Not been missed by the bookmakers though, 7's. Was hoping for double figures

Trapped on the rail with Ryan getting first run, think she was a slightly unlucky loser but oh well. Ended up backing it again 22s 2 places just before the off couldn't believe the price

                    Christ, needed that one.

Weird feeling crossing the line though as I was a bit gutted as I was confident One Voice was gonna get there.

Yep, stick to the jumps. Learnt that lesson years ago. You lose your money too quick on the flat. Like losing mine over a minimum of 2 miles ! Jumps all the way for me.

Silly me congratulating myself on getting 5/2 and 100/30 on Waliyak and Spright. Waliyak was my best of the week. At this rate she could still be. I think Waliyak has run way below the Ascot form but it is still frustrating when a horse is stepped up in trip and then ridden like a non-stayer. Waliyak has been ridden forward and that proved the place to be in this race. Having chased a ridiculous pace yesterday Curtis showed his versatility today in dropping a horse out in a slowly race with the consequence he pulled too hard. I suspect both those Scott horses are better than they have been allowed to show. Spright didn't cope with the drop in trip although she wasn't helped by the Johnston spoiler. I was just thinking that there haven't been that many hard luck stories this week. Step forward Arigato and Josephine Gordon. That was horrendous and it wasn't far off 1/100 that it was going to happen after a furlong. Gordon's career has nose dived and that sort of thing doesn't help.

Steel Bull wasn't inconvenienced by the drop back albeit in a weak looking Group 3. Mohaather was obviously the star of show and hopefully there will still be time for him to lay claim to being a top notcher. Nice to see Tregoning have another day in the sun.

                            Thankfully, only three tomorrow:-

                            Qaader
                            Nazeef
                            Miss Chess EW

One last chance for Qaader. There is a worry over his temperament and whether three races will have taken their toll but the quick ground should be much closer to his ideal. Nazeef is by no means a certain stayer but I am prepared to stick with her until she is beaten. I don't want to jinx him but I would have no hesitation in choosing Crowley as the go to man at the top table this season. Miss Chess shaped very nicely (albeit missing the break) on debut and the winner ran pretty well in listed company at Ascot on Saturday.
The horror show rolls on. Just when you think things can't get worse....

That was probably the worst day of the season for the Maktoum/Crowley combination.

Qaader just hasn't gone on from that Newbury debut. Almost certainly too many races in quick succession and it wouldn't be the biggest surprise if he never wins again. I called English King right but the horse most likely to take advantage has gone from travelling best to nothing in a few strides. Nazeef was the first beaten and shaped as if she wanted a mile and a half. A strange performance. Finally the icing on the cake, Gordon yesterday topped by Doyle today. Nobody should get into that much trouble in a nine horse race on any track. Strength in the saddle is sometimes an issue.

The one ray of sunshine was avoiding William Bligh who turned in a woeful effort in the nursery.

Apologies in advance to anyone who might have backed any of these:-

                            Under The Stars EW
                            Khaloosy
                            Sir Busker EW

This is the right trip for Under The Stars but clearly the favourite will be tough to beat. Khaloosy should dot up but I have said that before this week. Sir Busker should have won last time but he was wayward and weaving a passage will be the challenge.

                            Strangely, all have been supported.

                            • A timely reminder of how crap I am at flat racing and how dreadful my luck and choice of horses were at Glorious Goodwood for the 4th year on the bounce. As a favourite backer I need to remind myself that Goodwood, Newmarket and York are not courses to to back favourites on!!

                              • Saturday's bets. All EW.

                                13.50 - Rewaayat/Tommy G
                                14.25 - Themaxwecan
                                15.35 - Watan/Summerghand/Open Wide

Main bet is Watan and it would not surprise me if his price shortens considerably. Hannon has always thought highly of this horse and I think this race has been the plan for long time for his owners who sponsor the festival. I really liked the way he travelled in his prep race and was not given a hard time. He only got one hit of the whip and was then just hands and heels. Nahaarr won well with Maquand having to work hard but will now be 7lbs worse off against a race fit Watan. I would much rather be on at 16s than 4s.
