This might just be the third time I’ve put this filly up as a bet.
I think she’s handicapped to win. She just needs a little luck as she’s had none in her last two starts. She raced wide and made up a hell of a lot of ground last time. She looked outpaced over 5F last time so hopefully this step back up in trip will suit. Paddy Power are paying 5 places on the race so I’ve had a decent EW bet on her.

Switching over to American racing, can anyone explain why Tiz The Law is currently trading at 6/4 for the Travers stakes on August 8th, I have him nailed on as a 1/2 shot, confirmed target, prep going well according to media, I’m at a loss to the price, want to row the whole house behind this at 6/4 surely....???

Interesting that the outsider of the field in the 15:00 at Hamilton is both the Sporting Life and the Oddschecker selection in their race previews at 8/1. The horse is Arrow of Gold

Not something I look out for but it must be rare!



Does anyone know the £+/- level stakes for the SportingLife/Oddschecker/RacingPost spotlights (or equivilants) by the way... I'd imagine all 3 are way down because they have to put up a selection in every single race every day, but I'd like to see who fares best.


I have always had a soft spot for the Sporting Life, as 10 years ago when I was just 22, they had a 20/1 shot as their (NAP) and I put my free fiver on it (on a Monday on my lunch break) and it won. In my head that means they've been better for 10 years

Yes I’d make him 1/2. Especially now as Uncle Chuck may not be able to run if Bob Baffert’s suspension stays in place from the 1st August. Tiz The Law is 6/4 for the Derby so a strange price from Betfair/PP.

Having a go at a couple today:

Hamilton 2:00 Call Me Ginger 11/2 1.5pts E/W - Jim Goldie has just come into a bit of form and CMG has run with credit last two starts. Worry would be if it came up any softer than G/S, if it did I will probably cash, as don't think he performs best on this ground, despite a fairly OK run LTO.

Leopardstown 6:15 Contrapposto 18/1 (can be boosted to 19.75/1) 0.75pts E/W (5 places) - Needs ground without 'soft' or worse in the description, currently Good (Good/Firm) so ideal. Absolutely no chance last time out in listed company, where rated 14lbs below the nearest rival that day. Back in calmer waters today, usually finishes well, just needs luck in running, but should go close again, with 5 places up for grabs.

Although I watched it’s debut and it needs to improve a lot
So not confident at all
Atzeni obviously rides for the owner
And I think it’s his one ride for the day
Not sure how well he’s riding at the moment either

Wouldn't ever recommend the house behind a bet, but 6/4 looks like it is an attractive price.

The thing that's off putting is that PP have it that price and they usually price things correctly.

That said, I have backed it too.

3.50 Chepstow Carausius. 6/1
There look to be a few no-hopers in this maiden with a lot of them looking like handicap prospects. This lad looks to have a solid chance of making the frame. I didn’t like Retrospect’s two runs, though he’s superbly bred. Perfect Arch has a long absence to overcome. Coltrane should really have put in a better performance last time and the form of Nostalgica’s debut doesn’t look overly strong. So by process of elimination, I’ve landed on this guy. Charlie Hills and Harry Bentley are both getting plenty of winners. Bentley has a 18% strike rate at the course. Could be a place only bet for me tomorrow but I’ll decide closer to post time.
