  • Cesarewitch 2021

Willie Mullins has snapped up the services of a host of Britain's best riders in his attempt to win the Cesarewitch for a fourth year in a row at Newmarket on Saturday with Ryan Moore set to partner hot favourite M C Muldoon.
Mullins has left 11 in the Together For Racing International-sponsored staying showpiece, but is likely to launch a five-pronged attack on the race with William Buick likely to partner Triumph Hurdle winner Burning Victory, Ray Dawson on Foveros, David Egan on Whiskey Sour and Jason Watson set to renew acquaintances with last year's winner Great White Shark.

    Willie says that;
MC Muldoon in great form, he's very happy and horse is improving all the time

Burning Victory is in rude health but wants rain to come

Great White Shark back from injury but it'll be tough

Foveros and Whiskey Sour also in good form

    ---

It appears I am hoping for more rain then!

Buzz looks thrown in on his hurdle rating and it looks like it’s been a long term plan with Murphy having been booked early

I have been sweet on Burning Victory for a while for this race and she carries my money at 12/1. Willie might want more rain, but she's won twice on good ground in France over the summer and IMO dispelled the 'wants soft' tag. I remain convinced that if BV could jump she'd be a 150+ hurdler, but her jumping is her achilles heel. She obviously won the Triumph fortuitously, but came from a long way back and in the end class told vs some decent rivals. She's 117171 since joining Willie and both 7's can be described as 'not fluent 3rd, 5th etc, but stayed on well'. She is a big mare with a massive engine, and I think the invariable cavalry charge in the first quarter of the race will set her up perfectly in the last quarter. She wasn't beating much in her races in France but IMO was winning with enough in hand not to matter. Willie likes to get summer runs into his Cesarewitch horses and she was dossing about in France just getting fit. She has Buick up top and carries 8-10 off a mark of 94, which is thrown in and she could be improving at 5 for all we know. I'm virtually certain she's a more talented horse than M C Muldoon and if she goes here and not the Irish version (which would really piss me off) then I can see that price correcting, chunks coming, and that price more than halving. Hopefully 128k to the winner in the UK sways them off the 47k first place in Ireland.

You would hope with Buick making all the noises about still going for the jockeys championship, this was a ride he and his agent have been actively trying to get, so I'm taking that as a good sign.

Yeh I think you're spot on mate. I read the full RP article after posting this and thought pretty much the same. I'd rather have Buick up top that Moore, no question.

I think the extra 70k prize money and proven on good ground will sway them with WB up top.

Hard to be too confident in such a competitive race, but I really do think BV will win with 8-10 on her back and no obstacles in the way.

              charlie In the same boat

Adding a saver on Micro Manage with Keane on board. Needs to prove he'll stay but hoping he can settle, as it's clear he's pretty talented. With hurdles not quite going to plan yet (still young) he'll be trying for his life here with the prize money on offer.

Buick pressed the button too soon there for me, gutting.

                    Couldn't blame the jockey personally

Buzz was just a stronger stayer

He gave her an excellent ride, gave her every chance to win

Didn't see anything Buick did wrong, Buzz headed BV then BV pulled out in front and I was willing the line to come early but Buzz had a bit more to give.

Those two were a long way clear so that's just the way it is, hard to criticise the jockey there.

                      Still a gut punch mind.....

Good shout, unfortunately I was on Burning Victory and wishing the line to come like a few others on here. Not to be today, Buzz could be interesting in the Stayers, only priced with Bet365, was 33/1, but clipped into 25/1 now. Owners have said Stayers is the target.

                        25/1 E/W looks interesting.

Yes he did it well, thought he was always going to pick up BV but they were clearly the best two handicapped.

…moving forward there’s worse 25/1 pokes I guess but I’m more interested in the complement he paid to Abacadabras
