Hello Fat Jockeys,

We're looking to upgrade the 'hosting CPU' so I've set up a crowdfunding project.

  • York Ebor meeting - race tips and comments

I hope this thread isn't viewed as treading on the toes of the Nunthorpe thread or the thread about pubs and accommodation. Maybe Alcohol Free is indicated as an ironic tip!
But with such high quality racing I think this meeting deserves its own thread devoted to the races.

With a name like the Knavesmire (close to the Ouse) you'd expect the going often to be soft but the forecast is mostly dry until late on Saturday so I expect the going to remain at least good for the meeting.

    1.50 Symphony Group Handicap
I remember my father saying "they take it in turns" in these races. Often the same names appear again and again. The stats show that experience in big fields is a plus:

My long shortlist for this race:
    El Astronaute
    Jawwaal
    Whenthedealinsdone
    Major Jumbo
    Copper Knight

2-y-o 7f Acomb stakes G3 - only 5 runners but full of potential top class.

The two with just one win look exciting prospects (Dubawi :Legend, Imperial Fighter). Noble Truth has raced (too?) freely in his two runs but the form is strong.
Can Ehraz turn the form round on Noble Truth?
I usually like experience in these races but for value I'm going for Balding's Imperial Fighter. Only one run and win on soft doesn't yet make it a soft ground horse and Balding is doing so well (so is Palmer!)

      Tip: Imperial Fighter

        1 Copper Knight 18/1
2 Live in the Moment 12/1
        3 Hurricane Ivor 7/1
        4 Jawwaal 33/1

Northern trainers target this meeting (like Aintree).
        Course experience counted here.

          Sir Lucan/Kemari in the Voltigeur
Sir Lucan looked a worthy 2nd in the Gordon stakes ahead of others in this race.
Kemari won well at Ascot though has only 3 runs so far

            1. Royal Patronage 25/1!
            2. Imperial Fighter 11/2
            3, Dubawi Legend 7/4

Underestimate Mark Johnston at your peril. Another Yorks trainer win, The two outsiders came first and second. The 2-y-o with the most course experience won.
            Missed that one

It's getting to be a bit of a red flag whatever Ryan Moore is jocked up on for Coolmore.

Given results today, I'm inclined to give Mac Swiney a whirl in the next.

                    Big race:
                    Mishriff/Alenquer

It goes against the grain to oppose Love but that head carriage in the King George. Adayar could be a super horse so Mishriff deserves to be favourite here.
I really like Alcohol Free but an extra 2.5f?
Alenquer left with too much to do at Longchamp. Otherwise his form looks v good.

                      Sky Bet handicap (stayers)
Another open handicap so another long list:

                      Here and Now
                      Bodyline
                      Scaramanga
                      Rajinsky
                      Platform 19

                      Edit:
never underestimate the Irish but I simply missed it because of its age (7-y-o).

                        Juddmonte International 10.5f G1

                        1 Mishriff 9/4
                        2 Alenquer 8/1
                        3 Love 11/4

Gosden confirmed that Mishriff is better at this shorter distance but won't be going to the Irish Champion. The Arc/Breeder's Cup are possible targets.
Love clearly isn't the same horse as last year but still held on for 3rd
That Sandown classic trial Alenquer/Adayar/Yibir/Lone Eagle looking like a hot race now!

Obrein is horribly out of form atm

Only 2 from 33 the last 2 weeks

Couldn't touch anything of his clearly a bug in the yard

loves struggles have to be a red flag for snowfall who has a very similar profile

I'd really like for them to go for the breeder's cup classic with mishriff, would be a great story if they won it considering we never have any representation in it, mostly the turf
