  • King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes

Less than two weeks away and hopefully will be more competitive than last year's Enable virtual walk over!

With all the other sport going on it may have passed under the radar that Aidan O'Brien had a good w./e at Belmont Park with Santa Barbara and Bolshoi Ballet winning their invitational turf Oaks and Derby on ground described as good (looked a bit softer to me). Also Kevin Condon won the 7f Prix Jean Prat at Deauville with Laws of Indices at 29/1, having previously been only 5th behind Campanelle in the 6f Commonwealth Cup. Another Irish trained horse, Thunder Moon, was a narrow 2nd - his previous run was only 7th behind Poetic Flare in the 1m St James Palace Stakes! A touch was landed methinks.

For the KGaQE it will be interesting to see what actually runs. The weather is supposed to turn dry from midweek this week so it's unlikely to be soft ground

I do wonder what to make of Snowfall and Love who won their Epsom Oaks by such wide margins. The horses Snowfall beat by 16l and over haven't run too badly since and neither have the horses Love beat in the Epsom and Lancashire Oaks. A strict line of form through Mystery Angel and Alpinista gives Snowfall the edge over Love.

Then there are the 3-y-o colts Adayar, Alenquer, Hurricane Lane, Lone Eagle and Mojo Star - sort that lot out!

Gosden runs the highly successful well travelled Mishriff and there's Pyledriver and Wonderful Tonight in the miix with other live contenders

They won't all run but hopefully enough will run to make this a race to savour

    Love wins imo

Suspect she will improve for her run in the prince of Wales and the step back up to 1m4f

Looks set to get her ground too

Snowfall, hurricane lane, alenqeur, wonderful tonight won't be running due to recent runs or the ground

Cant really see Lone eagle, adayar or pyledriver being good enough to beat her

Can see her going off close to evs

I’ve been pressing Mishriff for this but a little concerned that orders on the machine at 11/12 are getting taken quickly, this is definitely the target but a concern nonetheless….

Snowfall is down to run in the Irish Oaks today but still in the King George VI, Aidan will probably delay any decision until nearer the time. Running in the Irish Oaks makes sense as this is the only chance Snowfall has of winning the race. 228,000 euros is not to be sneezed at!. She's long odds on but is still rather an enigma. She may actually like faster ground for all we know. The real enigma of this horse is the drastic improvement from two to three

I agree that the Prince of Wales was a prep race for Love for bigger challenges. She won comfortably over a shorter trip when not fully tuned up. Even so the current King George includes some very useful horses.

Another Derby winner to be long forgotten when Love wallops him?

Main danger Wonderful Tonight NR because of the ground. Love ticks all the boxes and has some impressive G1 wins to her name and she has a good favourite's chance.
I think this year's classic 3-y-os will prove to be above average but 3-y--os don't do well in this race. Broome may be the e/w value.

Well, he did that nicely. Joins a lovely little roll of honour to back the Derby up with a King George, first in 20 years. No hard luck stories in behind.

Frankel taking over from his old man. Hurricane Lane rematch with Adayar would be interesting. Last time they met he lost two shoes so can't take the form line of that too the tee. The Arc market is hotting up.

Charlie Appleby has had some year over middle distances, I didn't think Adayar would back up the win from the Derby today but shows what I know.....

On the "Love hasn't beaten anything" argument, Adayar did beat Hurricane Lane who then won the Irish Derby..
Maybe Love didn't give her running but there were no hard luck stories in the running of the race.

William Buick is usually restrained in his comments but it's obvious he thinks a lot of Adayar

Form line through Lone Eagle balances that out though.
Adayar looks the better horse to me.
The match up against Snowfall will be interesting.
