Isit too soon to worry about the going for Golden pal backers. Seems very wet! Good ground at best and more likely good to soft it seems. Let’s hope for a dry patch next week. Wonder if ward will send him regardless , I recall last year he was re routed due the the “British weather scuppering plans“ thoughts?

Wes said he had no problems running it in his comeback race even if it was really soft, turned out to be good though.. (We've had nothing in the North like Haydock today)

Good to see the Golden Pal weather watchers out in force as been wondering the same. Looks like a nice warm week up north this week which is good, but long term forecast suggests may be a bit of rain next week. As anything more than 5 days is a bit of a guesstimate, fingers crossed next week also stays relatively dry

A clerk only has to be sent a sunshine emoji and they get the watering systems on these days.

Francois Rohaut says the whole team behind Suesa is looking forward to the challenge of taking on the best five furlong specialists from Britain and Ireland in next Friday's Wootton Bassett Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes.

Suesa burst into contention for champion sprinter honours when blowing away a high-class field including Dragon Symbol, Glass Slippers and the now-retired Battaash with a dominant display in the Group 2 King George Qatar Stakes at Goodwood last month.

A best-priced 3-1 for the Nunthorpe, the Night Of Thunder filly has since been quartered in Deauville with the idea that if she came out of that race well, she could be on her travels back to Britain.

                      Nunthorpe racecard and betting

Following a routine all-weather breeze under Olivier Peslier on Tuesday, Rohaut remained extremely upbeat about the chances of Suesa heading to York a week on Friday.

"It wasn't really a proper piece of work but just a nice blow to make sure everything was in order and to keep her fresh and interested," the trainer said.

"York is a great challenge and if the filly is in good form at the start of next week we will do everything we can to be there. York is a bit like Goodwood in that it suits real specialists at the trip and she has proved she is one of those.

"In building a career and to have her internationally recognised, you have to run in these big races. The King George Stakes was great and this is a challenge that has us all excited, even the idea of going."

The recent ease in quarantine measures for travellers arriving in Britain from France means Rohaut and his staff will be able to travel to the Knavesmire, having entrusted the care of Suesa to others when she arrived in Britain at the Qatar Goodwood festival.

"It is a bonus for every member of the team that works with her because the other day it was a little frustrating to be in front of the television," Rohaut added. "But she did the job for us and that was more important.

Groom-to-be Buick loved up for more than one reason as Suesa strikes

"She eats and sleeps, virtually nothing perturbs her or gets her over-excited. That is one of her great strengths and she takes her travelling so well."

William Buick was aboard for her Goodwood success and her sole career defeat in testing conditions over six furlongs in the Commonwealth Cup.

While Peslier is now free to travel, Rohaut said it would be owner George Strawbridge who decides which jockey will take the ride at York.

"It will be Monsieur Strawbridge who will tell us what he wishes and I will be happy either way," he said. "Olivier has done all the work and William has put a seal on that.

"He really looked after her at Ascot when her chance had gone and who knows, that might have saved her career. He gave her the perfect ride at Goodwood. Who rides her is not a problem as far as I'm concerned.

"They are both great jockeys and I can be confident the job will be well done whoever rides her."

                            7barrows

Wesley Ward has said Golden Pal could be the best and quickest horse he has trained as he attempts to finally win the Wootton Bassett Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes next Friday, a race in which he has craved success since Lady Aurelia's heartbreaking defeat four years ago.

Ward thought he had won the race when Lady Aurelia flashed past the post alongside Marsha in 2017, and jockey Frankie Dettori was so certain he saluted the crowd, but Marsha agonisingly got the verdict by a nose.

The American trainer has not had a runner in the race since what he called an "incredibly gutting" reverse but this year sends over Golden Pal, who will be ridden by Dettori for the first time.

Ward is adamant the three-year-old is better than any horse he has trained, including the likes of Commonwealth Cup heroine Campanelle and No Nay Never.

"I train a lot of sprinters and I've said all along this is the best horse I've ever trained," Ward told the Racing Post. "He's got a little bit more to do for everyone else to believe what I'm saying but hopefully he can stamp it for me in this race. We've come up short in it before but he's ready to go.

"I'm relying on my old buddy Frankie Dettori again so we can right Lady Aurelia's defeat. He's had so much success for me in the past, is a great friend and an unbelievable talent. With the French filly [Suesa] in there too it makes it a truly great race."

Lady Aurelia and Frankie Dettori (yellow cap) suffer a narrow defeat in the 2017 Nunthorpe
                            Edward Whitaker

Last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint winner made a sparkling return with a three-length victory in the Grade 3 Quick Call Stakes at Saratoga last month and is a general 5-2 joint-favourite, with King George Stakes winner Suesa, to end Ward's Nunthorpe hoodoo.

"It was incredibly gutting with Lady Aurelia as I love fast horses. I really want to tick this race off the list and I genuinely thought we had it with her."

Golden Pal will fly over from Keeneland to York on Thursday before Ward heads out early next week, and the trainer is excited after his star put in some scintillating pieces of recent work.

"He had his final work on Wednesday morning and he worked excellently. I'll tell you now, I'm even more excited about how he's trained since that race at Saratoga," he added.

"He did that on only three pieces of fast work. I normally wouldn't run a horse in a stakes race off of three works but I know how much ability he has.

"He needed to run because York was coming up quick, so for him to do what he did was just amazing. His subsequent work has been really eye-opening.

"Keeneland kindly opened up their grass course – which hasn't been raced on since the Spring meeting – and they had flood-type rain on it on Tuesday night. The ground was really soft and there was a lot of water on it, but he just skipped over it. I took a video of it because he was that good."

Campanelle aiming for more Ascot glory

Ward also issued an update on Campanelle, who will be geared towards Royal Ascot next year following her disappointing effort in the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville last weekend.

Ward said: "She had a couple of minor issues and scrapes but nothing major. She's used to a pony at the start and as fillies get a little bit older they become more quirky. I'd have loved for her to have one but we had to abide by the rules.

"The immediate plans are up in the air until she's checked out here, then we can put our heads together. Barbara Banke [of owners Stonestreet Stables LLC] loves Ascot and she certainly wants to bring her back for the Diamond Jubilee next year."

Let's hope this horse is the airplane ward thinks he is

if he wins this he becomes a virtual certainty to win at the breeders cup too

As that track at del mar will suit him even more
