Hello Fat Jockeys,

Upgrading the Fat Jockey forum!: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/fatjockeyforum

We're looking to upgrade the 'hosting CPU' so I've set up a crowdfunding project.

I would love it if you could donate using the link below to access my project page. Any contribution large or small will be hugely appreciated. Thank you.

Well that was a decent start

Happy enough with the place money but hard not to be a bit disappointed. I thought he was drawn well enough to be ridden prominently and make use of his fitness. Being held up off a crawl wasnt what I was hoping for but what can you do. He finished full of running, and I think the jockey realised a good way out that he wasn't getting to the winner so was just doing the bare minimum to not ruin his mark. You'd imagine he'll be winning a race shortly.

I'll hopefully go a few places better next week.

I'll go with the weekly punt tomorrow if that's fine with everyone. There's very little I'm interested in today outside of ones ive backed antepost who are now shorter, and very obvious ones that most probably already have backed, whereas there's a whole bunch of interesting ones tomorrow. So I'll just put up whichever one of those is the best value tomorrow.

My selection is Navajo Point (4:32 Cork)

Best price 33/1 (4 places with paddy power/betfair)

                      33/1 also with 365/Hills

                      Reasoning will follow

Edit: went 33s from 40s as i was posting

A few of the others that i liked were tagged early on which was somewhat predictable but nevermind, as its lead me to go with the wildcard which is a bit less obvious.

I like the trainer martin hassett, he does very well with a very small dual purpose string, and having paid attention to his runners for a while, i've noticed a bit of a trend with his horses when making they're handicap debuts.

Over the course of the past five years from a very small sample size, he has recorded 25/1, 16/1 and 11/1 wins with horses starting out in handicaps, along with a few place efforts too, and a few unplaced. The latest example was siege of jadotville, a 25/1 winner on handicap hurdle debut a couple of weeks ago. One or two who didnt win on theyre first go went in on theyre second or third go at a big price so this one might be worth following forward if he doesnt do the business today.

Navajo point is by Arizona, so todays conditions of 7f on fast ground should be ideal for him, with underfoot conditions possibly in his favour more than a few of his rivals. The distance is the same as probably the most encouraging of his three maiden runs, his debut at the curragh. His next two were over 1m 1f and 1m, 1m 1f in particular wouldn't be obvious for an arizona.
Chris Hayes takes over in the saddle from a claimer who rode in his three maidens, and he is also drawn high which is known to be an advantage over 7f at cork.

So to sum up, everything is in his favour today, and there shouldn't be much excuse if he doesn't go well, other than just not being very good. Which of course is very possible, but at the odds im willing to have a go at a profile i like, even without much substance to his form.

Picked up well late on, will stick it in the tracker.

Yeah not sure what happened there, seemed to snatch up and lose ground and then stay on again. Might have nicked a place with a clear run, or maybe not. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on him on his next few starts, back up to a mile will probably suit. SP 12/1 so at least we got the value

I bow out with a total profit of 1pt, for whoever was backing each way. There's no real formula for deciding who goes next, so whoever wants to do it can volunteer.

Next week's volunteer gets the easy job of picking between the 37 mullins runners in the Scottish national and champion hurdle
