Crowdfunder - Fat Jockey Forum upgrade

Hello Fat Jockeys,

Upgrading the Fat Jockey forum!: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/fatjockeyforum

We're looking to upgrade the 'hosting CPU' so I've set up a crowdfunding project.

I would love it if you could donate using the link below to access my project page. Any contribution large or small will be hugely appreciated. Thank you.

There's a few interesting ones in there alright. But I'd say it's unlikely enough my pick will be from that race, I'll see

Most of the sprint graded races seem to be won by big priced horses so that might be the way to go

Look im a mug punter but I don't really get arbitrary price limits. Obvs not much fun if someone is putting up 1/3 shots, but 4/1 shots can still be great value. Think placing a random mental (as in the mental framing effect of the limit, not that the plan is bonkers!) limit sets you up to fail imo

I just think the excitement over the chance of a big price winner with a not very obvious selection is a big part of the draw with these things.

For example, the last three naiads have been nassalam, the goffer, and busselton. All three big priced runners. If you backed all three each way then you may have made a tiny profit or maybe just broke even. Nothing spectacular, but yet the numbers tuning in each year continues to rise, due to the excitement of spectre putting up something outside of the box and then everyone crashing the price, and the feeling of being on a big priced gamble with a live chance.

Using just supreme runners to keep it simple as a quick example, if the last three naiads were facile vega, firefox, and romeo coolio, then your returns would have been pretty similar to the returns from the actual naiads. But I would hazard a guess that the number of people tuning in would be dropping every year. I just dont think the same level of excitement would be there, and I think people would lose interest fairly quickly. I think even if there was a run of no winners for four weeks or something, people would keep coming back as i think you can stomach big priced losers for longer. Compared to taking the time to come on the forum and wait for the bet, only for it to be a 3/1 shot that went on to lose. I think in that scenario there would be a good number of people who would be gone straight away, rightly or wrongly.

That's just my thinking but I may be incorrect. Your the second person to question it so maybe the majority don't mind. I'll remove the minimum price limit for now, and will only reinstate if there is furore about it being removed

Edit: I've also removed the idea of a place finish getting you another week as the selector, as in the event of there being no price limit, there's no way people are getting multiple week stints for 2/1 shots who place.

Surely the only rule regards the winner stays on is being a winner ?
ie the advised bet making profit?
if anyone put up a 2-1 shot each way they’d be immediately banned anyhow.

Initially I had it as winner gets another two weeks, a place gets you one week. But that was with the minimum price, like a 10/1+ chance placing.

Obviously if we're losing the minimum price aspect then staying on another week for a place finish is gone if the bet doesn't make profit. Also a win only gets you one more week as opposed to two, as a win at small single figures isnt as impressive as double digits.

                Keep it simple mate.
Advised bet makes a profit then you get another crack. No one would complain at that.

We can still have "winner stays on" if your selection places, but I feel like on this we would have to agree on a minimum price limit. A 6/1 place technically makes profit, but if you put it up your not going to be expecting pats on the back for it. Would we be fine with someone getting an extra week for that?

edit: Quevega answered above. Unless theres any objections we'll go with that then, profit of any kind gets you another week.

I think as above. Keep it simple and consistent and fun and hopefully profitable . It could also turn into a mini competition, biggest priced winner , place etc

That's the plan. Was going to do some polls (if possible) to see what sort of format people would prefer, but seemed like a lot of fuss over nothing, so just decided to try and gauge from people's posts in here what they would prefer.

Seems like the least amount of rules possible and keeping it simple is what's preferred, so we'll go with that.

I'll probably pop a few "record holder" titles in post one. Highest price winner, highest price place, and longest winning sequence.

Would you be good enough to do it in the 'Flat Racing' section please? A direction from here or the General Chat thread would be welcome, of course.

                          That's twice you've asked to move a thread. Why's that ?

Stick to your guns, I'd say! Double figure prices, the bigger the better, place stays on for 1 week, winner gets you 2 and hero status . It's only a bit of fun and trying to "look outside the box" is a different angle to the norm. Good luck this weekend

On his other request it is kinda weird that the AIntree section doesn't even have a GN thread, whilst this thread lives in the Cheltenham section. Might help bring some life to those parts of the forum?

They’re both giving life to this section though which is where most people frequent.
I don’t really care but wondered why he did.
When I log in I come straight here so assume that’s what everyone else does.
And these two threads are the only ones in use the last few days.
