  • December ‘24 Yankee

Whilst we await MOM to conclude the November selections, nothing to stop us cracking on with thoughts for December.

I imagine there’ll be plenty of significant activity to analyse this month. Frightening to think only 3 more bets before the Festival.

Impaire Et Passe or The Jukebox Man.

Fight amongst yourselves, but one has to be included, IMO, now we've seen both and both are sat at double figures.

…..just been looking at IEP myself after reading a few posts about his rating. 16-1 seems very fair.

One should go in the November Yankee as they’ll both run over the Xmas period and potentially shorten. Which brings me onto my next point that the December Yankee should be placed before Boxing Day for the above reason or maybe do two yankees one before Xmas and one after.

Ironically, given TJM was a very near second in an Albert Bartlett, I do have reservations that he'll stay if it turns into a scrap. His jumping is very exuberant and I'm not sure that matches well with 3 miles and the Cheltenham hill. Contrarily, IEP, who has never been over further than 2m5f, showed me in his debut that he is racing in the right way to stay 3 miles. And he's trained by Willie. And he's 4pts bigger. So IEP gets my vote.

Agree. Which one will most likely improve going up in trip ?

              ….a few winners from Saxon Warrior November race planner;

Wingmen (won 2m 4f Navan hurdle for Elliott, the same race won by Ginto and Stellar Story before Albert Bartlett in recent times).
Ballygunner Castle (won the 2m Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse that Mullins ran Ballyburn in last year before he won the Gallagher).
IEP (won the 2m 5f beginners chase at Fairyhouse that has produced many festival winners, including Corbett’s Cross last year and Monkfish for Mullins who went on to win BANC)

Is it not time to get Salvator Mundi in one of these? Nothing looking like a superstar for the Supreme yet. I know we haven't seen him yet but I couldn't believe it when I looked through the past ones and he hadn't made it at the prices he has been previously.

I'd opt for The Jukebox Man primarily on the basis you're more likely to get a run for your money. Even if he is fit and well IEP has got to be only 50/50 to actually run in the BANC.
The Jukebox Man gives off Real Whacker/Stage Star vibes. Go from the front and possibly be given too much rope by some of the Irish challengers.

I think this is now probably a fair point. Now in December, the 2nd fav has just been beat, the 3rd fav might not even be in training yet, and there's not a whole heap in behind.

Yeah, quite possibly the safest option, for sure

And like a broken record, I'd opt for this 100%. Salvator Mundi for me too please, for the Supreme.

Would you not want to see an entry for him first seeing as he's had that setback??

We might want to get this Yankee backed before Christmas, rather than 1st January, if a lot of the final picks line up as short favs at the Christmas meetings

Something to keep in mind, and decide on before we get there.

My current thoughts would be to include

                              Salvator Mundi (Supreme)
                              Impaire Et Passe (BANC)

the latter has drifted from 10s to 20s for the Arkle, and he’s cantered in over 2M5.5F in a race used by Monkfish (BANC winner) and I Am Maximus (BANC 4th) for the stable recently.

                              and maybe
                              That’s Nice (MNH)
if Nicky gets her out again this month, as a shortie in another Mares Novice Hurdle.

as, hopefully they run at Christmas and are ridden by Paul, and Short Favs for Leopardstown races.
