The double red herring, one by Patrick (Ksar Fatal) the other by Ruby (Copacabana), only for Gameofinches to come out and do that

I'm shocked so many followed Rubys words on Copa being bet of the week. I mean cmon, think about it he's putting up a bumper horse as his best of the week, the bookies will have made an absolute fortune off those words for so little. Be no shock to see you'll get a price about Copacabana now on the day I suspect.

He did the same about a double green horse for the mares novice i think a couple year back on the PP preview, everyone jumped on and then the horse didn't even run.

Night and Day was the horse. I remember watching the preview live and he put it up at 100/1 and within an hour had been smashed in to 14/1. I thought I was onto a nice winner and then never got entered

          • ….Patrick Mullins;

Mullins told Sporting Life: "It was (easy) for Gameofinches, it's what we thought he'd do. I was a touch worried going to the start but we ended up settling in, which was great.

"He's a fine, big horse - he's 16.3hh - and he only came here in late-November which is never easy to do as we like to give horses plenty of time to settle in. Which is why we're getting him out as late as we are.

"Obviously the meeting got put back, which isn't ideal, but Cousin Vinny won at Punchestown on the Wednesday this week and went and won the Champion Bumper 22 days on, as the Wednesday that year was put back a day so he got 22 days.

"This fella has won on the Thursday so he's got 20 days. It's not ideal but it can be done and the fact that he's a six-year-old who has had two point-to-point runs and now a bumper, is a little bit different perhaps to a horse that's had their first ever run.

"We don't think he's short of gears, normally I like to give them a squeeze and teach them to quicken but because the race was so close to Cheltenham, I was very conscious of giving him as easy a race as we could.

"So I didn't get to really open him up and perhaps that is a little negative as well. But we've done it at home and we think he's not just a galloper, he has a turn of foot, and there probably hasn't been too many horses with his size and scope that won the Champion Bumper - you're probably looking at something like Florida Pearl. Facile Vega was as tall but maybe not as wide.

"He definitely has the ability to win the Champion Bumper, we'll have to see how he comes out of the race over the next week or 10 days but that's where we'd like to get him."

Yeah, wasn't one for me, albeit the price had gone anyway.

Wouldn't surprise me if he's held back for one of the other festival bumpers though.

              • Kalypso at 4th favourite and a decent each way price for multiples might be a bet, albeit I've said I can't be bothered with this race anymore. He's got the best form and seems to have a nice turn of foot. Gameofinches obviously looked good, but a quick turnaround for a horse that's reportedly had issues. Doubt we'll see him over hurdles and probably one we will see straight over fences next year, which would be interesting as the owner part owns Final Demand and they both look similar enough types.

Looks like it will be a full field. How are horses balloted out in this - a draw, ratings or something else?

You'd imagine gameofinches for the arkle, final demand for the banc, assuming both jump about as well as each other, and both are actually good enough.

It's nice to get a head start on 2026 bingo before the 2025 festival has happened

                    100%.
The yard is a closed shop, very little leaks from there unless it's what they want leaked, for Ruby to volunteer his pick was either nonsense or designed entirely to put everyone away.
Copacabana could easily be 10s on the day....

I'll find the quote but there was a comment about going chasing because hurdles wouldn't be an advantage at the horse's age.

I'd add him, as with Patrick, to the ignore list. That yard, while undoubtedly being top of the tree, leave me with a lot of suspect behaviour, none of which is ever called out. No doubt we'll get some gems during this preview circuit round.

Just for some of the younger readers here. DO NOT GET SUCKED INTO WHATEVER YOU HEAR DURING THE PREVIEW CIRCUIT. THEY ARE JUST ENTERTAINMENT. (The Spectre one excepted, of course).

Yeah I seen that, awful price imo.

If he wins the bumper, he could go arkle, banc, or be a mid trip type that willie will throw a strop over again and skip the festival altogether. Or they could decide to go over hurdles in the end if they feel him and final demand would be taking the same novice chase route. Too much uncertainty.

Even though I probably don't fancy her as much, id be far more likely to take the 40/1 on bambino fever bumper + mares novice. At least if she wins youd know its very likely she'd be going there, and she'd be a very short price for it.

                            • Different races but it terms of 2025 & 2026 Festival doubles, I quite like the 40-1 about East India Dock for the 2025 Triumph Hurdle & 2026 Champion Hurdle. At 9-4 for the Triumph, I make that about 11.6-1 for next year's Champion Hurdle, if he's already won this year's Triumph.

Yes it's the "difficult 5 year old season" but I'm thinking his slick hurdling technique means there's no need to send him over fences so it looks decent to me.

                              Price is with PP/BFSB
