    • ….Dysart;

She goes for the Mares’ Hurdle, and I am very happy with her. She is in a great old place, and we are hoping she comes back to her very best this spring. (Fergal O’Brien)

            Is it that weird?

I still hope I'm wrong but one of the Mares running here has been 1.01 all season

I think if BDA goes CH then Lossie moves here and Paul sticks with the reigning CH and current ICH winner, State Man ...... and rides with confidence on the back of an odds on win in this race....

            • It is weird, yeah.

there’s been zero talk of her going here.

Don’t get me wrong, 11/8 to win the mares is mad value with BDA seemingly going champion.

But who’s using up that much of their betting bank backing a 11/8 shot now when there’s so much else out there and such a chance that she doesn’t run here.

so yeah i suppose it is _that_ weird!

              • She’s a lot bigger on the exchange so wouldn’t surprise if it’s the bookies cutting to draw folk in, as Ista says they do from time to time.

                • I’m with Kev on this one. I’ve had a nagging doubt since the fall last time out that they will switch Lossiemouth last minute to the mares. Will sight the normal stuff like ‘it wasn’t the plan, but off the back of the fall’. Kinda reminds me of the late Vautour switch (different circumstances obviously), but wouldn’t put it past them

                  • No, I still think Lossiemouth will turn up at the Champion Hurdle. She's already won the Mares, no one really knows if CH has kept his superior form, and it's now or never, with some potentially high class novices waiting in the wings next year.

They'll want to give it a go.

                    • I don't see it as a now or never senario myself, she's still only a 6yo, maybe swerving BDA & CH this season could prove a prudent move.
The fall lto does give them the perfect get out as well without it coming across like they don't think she's up to beating either of the above horse.

                      • Why would anyone be backing Lossiemouth for any race now? There's no juice left in either of the prices (imo) so why not wait until declarations? At least you will know who she is racing against. The NRNB option doesn't make sense either imo. Seems odd.

                          Absolutely
Being still young enough she could easily wait another year.
If she was beating CH it would have been at Xmas when CH was first time out and she was race fit.
And then there’s BDA who looks the better mare out the two on what I’ve seen.

Indeed, also BDA is unlikely to turn up in the CH next season, unless she wins this one, which if she does means CH won't be deemed a threat next season, eitherway next season you may only have 1 of the above to beat, instead of both.

FWIW I have Lossie for the CH at 8/1 so I'm not against her running here or talking up my own position, I just I don't see it happening.

I have been building up an AP position on the related double of Lossie mares / BDA Churdle thinking along these lines. You’d think Gordon would get his way with BDA’s target if it came down to a choice of taking on Lossie or Constitution considering the differing prizes on offer. However, JDG’s recent performance and position in the mares market somewhat dampens the likelihood of Willie switching Lossie.

                              • Provided the main players do not come out of the race Willie can not win the Champion Hurdle with State Man. He has a better chance with Lossiemouth. It's been his 2 year plan.

Willie can win the Mares Hurdle with Jade De Grugy. He doesn't need Lossiemouth for that race.

Why defect from a 2 year plan when he has another mare for this race?

If Lossiemouth had stayed up at Leopardstown and dispatched of State Man, like many believe she would of, this wouldn't even be a conversation, regardless of where Brighterdaysahead goes.
