It'll depend on the nature of defeat but if she's beaten fair and square, then they'd go Mares imo.

      • In my opinion the only banker about Kargese is she won't get 2m4f the way she tugs.

        • First time out this season, think Kargese is worth another chance. Worth putting her into some multiples I think.

I really dont understand the mentality of giggingstown, so their reasoning is that a penalty kick is a better option than being 2nd fav in the championship race. Ok if thats their logic then will they go mares chase for the next 3/4 years (penalty kick) and never go gold cup regardless if shes a 170+ mare?

Similar thinking to myself. If that's how they see it then fair enough, but hard to make sense of. You constantly hear owners talking about how they aren't in the game to make money, as it's very hard to so, so what else does that leave? Enjoyment and the thrill of seeing your horse do great things, i would imagine. Along comes a horse who's more than good enough to run in the champion hurdle and would have a great chance of being they're first winner of the race, and yet there's talk of them going to the mares, a second rate grade one that they've already won, and in comparison to winning the champion hurdle, nobody would give a toss about her winning the mares (apart from backers). Hard to see how they'd get a huge thrill out of that, if it was smaller owners then I'd say fair enough, as winning the mares would be huge for them, but to gigginstown it's not going to be that big a deal. It is only speculation at the moment, they havent said mares themselves yet, so I hope they do go for the big one in the end.

              • Is everyone convinced Lossie runs in the Irish Champion Hurdle? I think she'll go International again as it worked out perfectly for her last year. Or do we think she'll run scared of CH ?

They will learn a lot more about her by running in the Unibet Hurdle on Trials Day against CH. From there they could decides if she has a chance to beat him. If she sluices up in the Irish Champion Hurdle they still won't know. my view. If she goes to Unibet she ends up in the Mares. If she goes to Irish Champion Hurdle she runs in the Champion Hurdle......and she loses.

I believe Joe Chambers pretty much ruled out her coming over for the Unibet on the Nick Luck podcast saying it isn't likely to be on her agenda.

Yeah, why would they take Constitution Hill again, at least not until the festival, anyway.

DRF for her, and now Constitution Hill is likely going to trials day, Anzadam for the Red Mills (which Ruby alluded to on The Road To Cheltenham).

                      • To be fair surely going for the Irish Champion makes much more sense. If she can’t win that then she isn’t going to the Champion Hurdle anyway. They’re not going to take on Constitution Hill again prior to the festival. I’d also add to that the International is a Grade 2 and the Irish Champion is a Grade 1. WPM can set a strong pace in the Irish Champion with social runners to see if she can cope with going strong/championship 2m pace. He isn’t likely to send a couple runners with Lossiemouth to the International to try that and I’d say there is less than 0% chance now that C Hill is going for the race.

All the talk of going for the Mares hurdle was before Leopardstown. Now she has produced a Championship winning performance then that opinion may well have changed. In fact O'Leary (Not sure which one) in an interview immediately afterwards intimated that the Champion Hurdle had to be in consideration. It's why I don't get too carried away by what is said in early stable tours. Performances on the track is really what matters and can quickly scupper plans.

Wasn't aware of that. Cheers. Irish Churdle it is then. Win that and she books her place. Lose and she goes Mares. I do think that her performance at the DRF will have a big say which way BDA goes as well.

                            • Any quotes from Dan after Take No Chances win yesterday. Was at Football so didn't see the race . Have backed TNC at a big price for the Mares and if both the Big Mares go CH then she'd surely have a squeak.

                              • Woods said: “She dug really deep and I thought I might be in trouble going to two out. I thought Willie’s horse possibly had me covered, but I got over two out and this mare really dug deep and stuck her head down – she’s really, really tough.

“There is no doubt we had race fitness on our side but it’s nice to win today. She’s done nothing wrong at all and the only time she has finished out the front three (this season) is behind Sir Gino in the Fighting Fifth and she ran really well the last day at Cheltenham in a very competitive handicap. She’s a really solid mare and runs her race every time.”

Woods incurred some hefty whip bans when riding last term, but added: “When you get on some good horses, the game is easy.

“If you are picking up rides for the like of Dan, it does make the job a lot easier, what a difference 12 months makes.”

Winning owner Garry Wilson will let Skelton map out future plans, although he would relish a crack at the Mares’ Hurdle, with Take No Chances now a 12-1 shot for the Cheltenham Festival contest.

He said: “She has an entry in the Mares’ Hurdle and I guess we will consider that at Cheltenham, but I will leave it up to Dan, he has guided us all the way.

“It would be a great day if we could do it, she’s a little terrier, who always gives us 100 per cent.

“She went to Wetherby and won over this distance, but I was a bit worried about the ground today – it was a bit tacky – but I’m delighted.”
