  • Your premise is spot on, but I don't think your point is. Isn't the '2 year plan' a reference to their goal being Lossie winning the CH? If that's the case, then it's more akin to a complete change of the fundamentals of what the company is doing as opposed to a change in short-term execution [She's not likely to find it easier to win the CH next yr].

Saying that, I do find it hard to go shorter than 4/7 that she'll go CH - just because it's willie [I honestly believe RR would prefer the prestige of the CH - win or lose]

Yes and the best and most successful companies reinvent themselves on a regular basis as soon as they realise that there have been or will be changes to their environment that they hadn’t anticipated when they put their original plan/strategy or whatever you like to call it in place. The companies that die are the ones that stick rigidly to their ‘fundamentals’ even when all the evidence tells them it will lead to extinction. The companies that succeed are the ones that are capable of emerging and creating new ‘fundamentals’ when the situation warrants it.

in this case they have new data that they didn’t have two years ago. 1) she had a really nasty fall lto. 2) she has run against and been beaten by a rival. 3) She is likely imo to be discarded by the stables number one jockey for a horse that has very little chance of winning imo and 4) the emergence of another horse that has reached a level that she has hasn’t yet reached.

The question they will be asking themselves is whether she is as good a horse as they had hoped or believed she would be 2 years ago. Maybe they think she is or maybe they thought she would have already shown herself to be a 170 mare by now. Who knows. I think it hangs in the balance and if she does end up in the CH I suspect it will be a decision driven as much by emotion as anything else.

      • Imo this 2 year plan was willie convincing ricci to go mares last year, imo i think ricci wanted the champ hurdle last year for lossie and willie put forward this 2yr thing to sway ricci to the mares, its just guesswork but its what im going with.

        • I know Wodhooh plans for hdcap of course - but could this re-think the supplement for this race now ?

Doesn't sound like it. Gordon going to rely on Kala Conti only.

Best of luck with your related double.
              Thanks EA.
              Part 1 of 3 achieved

Question for Willie now is would he rather fire 2 bullets at an incredibly trappy CH, or at a mares hurdle with little opposition? I doubt he would want to lose both races..

                • J Scott has said today considering the news from Gordon that they are favouring the mares races now for golden ace but still either or on the expected ground is a possibility - last minute decision still.

More likely to just stick with Kala Conti I'd have thought, as I think she was a possible for a handicap

Well, that's what Gordon said most recently anyway

You just know they're going to bottle it.

Champion Hurdle is going to be a match and about 4 or 5 runners!

                      • If she was locked on for the 2 year plan, they wouldn't have kept her entered

What's the just in case scenario they'd have been hoping for?

The excuse of being off a fall last time, and Paul picking State Man last time (the reigning champion hurdler and just won the Irish one too) ....

I think we're going to see a Willie Mullins move

I think as well, there is a bigger gap between Lossiemouth and Jade De Grugy than Jade De Grugy to the rest of the field?

I do hope I'm wrong but the 'shit' Mullins got for Vautour winning, same for Ruby, I don't think they'll have lost sleep over

I'm trying to talk myself out of taking the exchange prices though and doing a poor job - I need to come back in a few hours

                        • Cannot see any way Paul gets off the reigning champ and reigning Irish champ. He didn't when Lossiemouth was odds on in Ireland... Lossie going to the Mares would certainly suit him.

Willie can give RR his winner for the week. Suppose the only man who might not be happy is Kenny Alexander.

Dry forecast also makes it more likely they switch Lossie imo.

                          • I'd be leaning towards the likelihood of a switch too. Rich Ricci has mentioned before being first string (Paul Townend riding) is really important to him. Also, the fall and defeat to Constitution Hill gives enough reason to change tack on the 2 year plan.

Also, probably me being cynical, I'm not so sure on the 2-year plan thing. May have been a way to keep RR sweet last year when he wanted to go for the CH perhaps.

                            Plans change when circumstances change.
