  • I did doubt Dinoblue as a stayer pre race, but think she stayed on to the line well, but was outstayed by a horse with more stamina. That's what it boiled down to, IMO, not jockeyship, not whether she got the trip, I felt both were fine, but Limerick Lace was put into the GN and had that much more stamina than Dinoblue.

They both beat everything else in the race and some of them others that ran stay plenty well enough.

    • Not sure why I've only just realised, but Bioluminescence had to give 1lb away to Dancing City @ Naas (I assume for the graded win first time out), and whilst I don't particularly like Dancing City for the BANC, that is still some peformance for a mare, who would normally be getting 7lbs in a graded race from him.

      • Ruby saying on PP podcast that ADV was covered but didn’t take

Not sure what affect this has if any but the initial intention was to retire her

I choose to see this as a negative for Dancing City rather than a positive for Bioluminescence because it suits my narrative... Maybe a double on the pair would be a good idea for me

          • ….Ruby Walsh;

            Mrs Paddy Mares’ Chase

Has Dinoblue had a wind operation?

Not that I’m aware of – she wore a tongue tie. She’s still in the yard – I couldn’t see Dinoblue running at the weekend the way she’s running. [She doesn’t have an entry at the DRF but she is in the Queen Mother and the Ryanair at Cheltenham]. Maybe she should have but if she will have or not, that depends what humour Willie’s in.

Sometimes wind ops are all in, there’s other times wind ops are all out and at the moment wind ops seem to be out. Now that might change but tongue-ties are all in at the minute. Cross nose bands, wind ops seem to be a thing of the past. Allegorie De Vassy?

She was much better at Fairyhouse – if you could convince yourself, she does jump to her right which is a bit of a drawback for her, that she was going to run her race, she’d be in the mix.

Allegorie De Vassy just can blow out – she definitely bounced back on New Year’s Day in good fashion and put a disappointing run at Clonmel behind herself. I’m assuming she has the option of the Opera Hat which is Sunday week and I’d be surprised if she didn’t go there.

She is rock-solid, that said I suppose, I kind of had thought she had gone as far as she could go at the end of last season. She was covered – she didn’t take and she’s back in training so there could surely be a younger mare there.

She’s not that old, but she’s plenty of racing done. If you go there as an owner, you’re entitled to go there thinking you have a chance but does that mean you want to hold a docket, I’m not so sure. Verdict?

I’m just trying to figure out will Only By Night stay – her only run over two and a half was at Fairyhouse last year, I think she was gone though behind Jade De Grugy.

I thought the way she travelled at Cork to me she didn’t look like she had the early pace for two miles – she went from off the pace and warmed up into it. I think she could be a sneaky one.

Yeah she went to Walk in the Park so I presume they'll try again this year.

              • Does the mare be charged then if she wasn't covered?
My thinking is that they would charge at the time of service but when she wasn't ever scanned in foal, she would go back this year and it will be free??

The likes of archie will no doubt know more but I've always understood the mare has to foal for cover fees to apply.

I thought it was pays your money and takes your chance. Remember watching a program about Coolmore and sure they said you pay for the cover and if no foal they still keeps the cash. Might have it wrong though. Looking forward to the answer on this.

Different studs have different charging methods but the most widely used is 'October 1st terms'. In essence, once the mare is scanned with a foetus after covering there is another scan after about 28 days for a heartbeat. If that's all good, the stud fee is payable on 1st Ocrober if she is still in foal. Basically, we had our mare scanned in the last week of September and then coughed up the fee.
Outside of the stud fee, you pay other expenses like vets and accommodation at the time that they are incurred.

                        • Gavin Cromwell's seven-year-old mare who 10/3 from 5/1 after fine second to Dancing City

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “When the money comes for a big Irish contender for the Cheltenham Festival, it often pays to take note, and it seems that’s exactly what’s happened with Bioluminescence. Gavin Cromwell’s mare has been all the rage for the Mares’ Chase since her second to Dancing City at the weekend and has been smashed into 10/3 from 5/1.

“In the same colours, Dinoblue still remains favourite at 3/1, but if the money continues to come for this other JP McManus-owned contender, their positions in the market for Cheltenham could soon switch.”

                          Taken from irish Racing.

“Touch wood so far so good and hopefully we’ll get her out before the end of the month. There are options for her at Naas and Navan,” said Murphy.

“It’s been a long road with her with a few little bumps along the way, but fingers crossed we’ll get a good run with her and it’s all systems go.

“We haven’t ruled out Cheltenham, but I’d love to get a run into her before I’d bring her over.”

                            • Dinoblue and Allegorie De Vassy both declared for Saturday (with one other). Dino giving away 6lb as well. Hoping to see her go well though.

I'd be fancying Dinoblue over 2m, even with the penalty.
